1 week AC update

im now finished with page 1 of 3 of the career mode.

steve asked me if the physics were good and I think the answer to that question is definatly yes. but there is more to the story than that, handling, ffb etc. but the physics engine itself is very life like.

Im getting a bit tired of doing the same hand full of tracks over and over. while they try to up there track count with variants, there are only 12 tracks. and seems like you just keep doing the same 5.

the tire telemetry is really nice. and live. gives inside to outside temps, core temps, wear, psi, color. etc and all live while your racing. going to be very handy for tuning. and if you overcook a tire, you pay for it the next few corners, you see the psi and temps rise according. then they will go back down to normal if you don't slide them anymore.

the street cars are still shit. you just babysit the back end beyond realistic. its like the rear tires are ball bearings and when you let off the gas it automatically pulls the parking brake. its the worst when you let off the gas. I don't mind the tire spin on acceleration, thats real. there undriveable. This is with TCS and STM off. even with tuning trying to lower rear psi, increase rear toe, increase rear rebound all trying to keep it from looping when you let off for a corner. to be honest I wish they had diff, springs, and arb adjustments but the don't for street cars. I think the diff may be to blame.
the KTM Xbow was the worst. it was impossible to drive even with max grip/stability tuning. I had to decrease AI to 80% and fight like hell to get threw that series. street cars still have a very disconnected feeling

id love to pick up the Japanease car pack but with them all being street cars I don't want to waste my money.

The AI seems really great. you can really race with them, and there skill level is adjustable. if they have the inside of the corner they will hold there ground and race with you (clean), but if they have the inside but are too car back ie there headlights to your rear fender, they will lift and let you have the corner. if they are on the outside beside you, they will lift and let you have the corner. pretty real I think. ive only been hit my them a couple times in first corner traffic. nothing terrible. I haven't decided if they retaliate, ie if you are rough with them, they are rough back. undecided.

I got rid of that cornering FFB rumble! its what they call "slip effects" I turned it down. they also have a check box for "enhance understeer effect" this is when your in corner and you loose front grip/push, the wheel will go light. I would LOOOOOVE to be able to get rid of this in project cars! would save the game. I leave this off. it has just enough stock. enhanced was too light/project cars like.
here are the FFB I have settled on.

at this point with the game/street cars I would say this would make a good console/controller game, and not much more.

i was about 75% threw page 1 of the career (street cars) than I threw my hands up and turned on TCS and STM. things really turned around. I started to enjoy the game more, I could actually drive the cars rather than baby sit the diff/parking brake /rear entry grip issue. it was unrealistic training wheels in that I could just stab the gas in second gear with no issues, but it did solve the entry loops. a lot more fun. with the 458 probly being one of the better street cars, but I had the nannys on by that point, so I wouldn't mine retrying the McLaren with it. (maybe even KTM too)
Id like to go back now and try street cars with STM still on, but no TCS, I think that would be a nice realistic mix.
for race cars I run no TCS or STM. at least for now. there were a few I found undriveable I may have to turn back on (Sauber C9)

I think the rest of the career looks like race cars from now on. looking forward to those.
havent tried any online races yet

I'll be interested to see if the same issues are present on the XB1 version Cory, I sure hope not, as I'm really looking forward to the street cars more so than anything else to be honest.

me too!
also we have a new AC member which made me retry drifting last night.
i tried different cars and it was a much better result! i think its defiantly doable now with some practice.
apparently the 3 cars i tried had handling issues, (shelby cobra, new ford, mustang, i cant remember 3rd one)
might even pick up the Japanese car pack just for drifting.

You know this means I'll probably have to snag it for PC as well once I get off my ass and get mine fixed.

Laziness I tell ya, laziness. I need to dig out my external HD to back up a bunch of stuff first, then wipe it, then fill out all the paperwork and get it sent off. I need to make that a priority, I miss racing with you guys.

I think it would run AC with things turned down, it should anyway. Also, does chat work on PC games? I mean, do you guys wear headsets and are able to talk like we can on XBL?

Oh yeah, I still have it. The new bearing will be here tomorrow, and I'm doing a couple other mods while I'm in there. Since I'll now have two TX bases, this one will be my test mule.

make it priority!
we use a 3rd party software called Team speak to chat during PC games with headsets. i use a turtle beach set Steve put me on to.

i didnt realize you were gonna rebuild it. i wanted a part off of it if you were gonna trash it.

Yeah, I'll dig around and find my HD and get that project going for sure. I run a TB headset also so hopefully it would work OK.

Yeah, the bearing was only $12 shipped and should get it back up and running. If not, my new one showed up today, and I'll let you know about parts.

Happy to report the bearing fix worked like a champ, did a few other mods while I had it apart, and got my handbrake setup ready (other than ordering the wrong switches DOH!), bring on AC next week!!

Oh yeah, I may have a slight sim race gear problem.

Talking Re: PC Sim Racing

So i spent a few hours today playing AC on ps4
And i love it . That physics engine is pretty good as is the force feedback.
A1 racers are really good, like stang killer said there tough but fair , i do think they get aggressive if you provoke them , i got turned around by one on the nurburgring , but i had belted him around quite a bit beforehand lol
Definitely needs more tracks and cars but.
Managed to get a couple of wins at spa and the nurburgring with the a1 set to hard , but had to push pretty hard coz i was starting from the back , will see how fast the a1 are tomorrow when there set to alien
Loving the zakspeed rs1600 escort

If only GT6 had this physics engine (mainly tire settings) i would be in heaven

Tried drifting in AC the other night with Cory and Steve. Wow, something just doesn't seem right. I believe it's all in the settings somewhere, but it was extremely difficult for Steve and me. Cory took right to it, though! Hopefully, we'll figure it out soon enough, but time has been short for me lately...

On another note, I finally got a 3 monitor mount for my monitors. Now I can look straight ahead and not downward when I race!

And yes, I still race while sitting at my desk. No cockpit setup for this guy just yet.... But that'll change!

nice tommy! do you run sub too for sound?

im really hoping you and steve get drifting figured out. because it was awesome.
and i know you too are better drivers than me. only difference was yall are on logitechs, windows 10, and possibly settings.

great to hear your planning a pc build Speed, and not cut yourself short with the laptop. your obviously obsessed as we are with the hobby. (maybe more!) its going to be so good to have new blood. we could use the motivation.

Yep, obsessed for sure, and very excited for the PC version of AC with the mods.

Not perfect by any means, but things are starting to click now...

Cory, you ever pick us a Dirt Rally challenge for the week?

Also, can you PC guys look over my build list please. Anything you'd change, or that just jumps out at you, by all means, criticism and advice is not only welcome but requested.
