weve all been there. it definatly sucks. just more motivation to move up the ranks, with better racers.

Yep, it's just a slog with crap like this. Took a break tonight, me and some buddies formed a wing for some Elite Dangerous tonight. HOTAS setup on the wheel stand works great. Game is amazing in VR.

Re: PC Sim Racing

Filed my first protest in iRacing tonight. Two cars tangled, I slowed (I'm in the Repsol car), made my way around with plenty of room, and I guess one of the guys didn't like it and rammed me in the next corner. I'm done with this crap every week, they can get banned and go back to Forza.

No apology after, I assume? It's hard to tell in the video if he did it with malice because it almost looks like he veers to the left just a bit before impact. No chance he just lost track of the braking points?

Regardless, that sucks.... :(

Re: PC Sim Racing

Nope, no apology at all, nothing. And he had plenty of time sitting in the pits to do so. Maybe he did just lose track, but it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out you're about to hit the car in front of you.

How did your race go Tommy?

That sucks!! And even if it wasn't intentional, an apology would CLEARLY be in order. Given that there wasn't one, it's feasible to assume it was intentional. Let us know what iRacing says about it...

No race for me last night. Went for a bike ride instead, but I'm hoping to do a GT3 race at LeMans this evening.

Yep, a simple I'm sorry goes a long way as far as sportsmanship is concerned. Didn't know you were into bikes, motorcycles or bicycles? I picked up the A10 for DCS world, so I think I'm going to spend a few days with that getting my HOTAS setup and learning my way around.

Bicycles. I have a couple mountain bikes, one of which I converted to a city bike. Used to have a sport bike YEARS ago, but drivers in Austin are oblivious to their surroundings so no way I'd ride around here again.

Re: PC Sim Racing

Very cool! I've missed riding pretty bad, but the gaming has kept me from going nuts while healing up. Slowly getting back into it now, and man I'm outta shape big time.

Re: PC Sim Racing

configure your controls damn it!:lmao:

what i see is a newb driver in over his head, no abs, probly a poor or stock setup, and the red mist coming into corner one.
i didnt see anything intentional. he wouldnt have lifted at all if he wanted to end your race. and im assuming there wasnt any beef from previous corners?
probly doesnt have sorry programed to his wheel, or know how to type on screen responces.

again another reason to rank up. not that we dont have those mistakes too. i run into steve all the time. partly because we are very comfortable racing so close to each other because we done it for so many years, and partly because i cant drive and get the red mist from time to time :D i can rarely outdrive tommy and steve, so when i see i have momentum or a run on them, i go all in with both balls. usually ending poorly.

hpiguy 10-19-2016 09:43 AM

Re: PC Sim Racing

LOL

WTF is red mist, is that a new soft drink? No beef from previous corners, other than me passing him after he tangled with another car.

Tommy R 10-19-2016 09:46 AM

Re: PC Sim Racing

It's when you see red after someone does you wrong on the track and it clouds your judgement and you do silly things like retaliate.

But it doesn't seem like he had ANY reason to be upset with you. Maybe the other guy he tangled with, but not you. Maybe he had y'all confused??

hpiguy 10-19-2016 09:54 AM

Re: PC Sim Racing

Either way, it's on him, and I'm tired of the Forza / GT kiddies. We all make mistakes, sure. But thus far, I haven't wrecked anybody in a race yet, and I'm a noob at iRacing. And if or when I do, I'll apologize, even if it's after the race is over. This is the third race in a row where some dipshit that has no clue that the cars have brakes has rear ended me and ruined my race, and it's ruining iRacing for me to be honest. It's starting to feel more like something I have to do than something I want to do. If I want to play demolition derby, I'd have kept my Xbox One. LOL

STANG KILLA SS 10-19-2016 10:04 AM

Re: PC Sim Racing

yeah red mist is when you get over concentrated/ over aggressive on track. i think term refers to blood shot eyes? like when you follow a guy forever and get frustrated/brave and try to dive under him at maybe not the best point. poor judgement. ie thats the Red Mist.

STANG KILLA SS 10-19-2016 10:06 AM

Re: PC Sim Racing

keep an eye on your rear view too. you have to be defensive, if i see some one coming in hot in my rear view i let off the brakes. even if it means me going wide or even in grass. its worth it.

hpiguy 10-19-2016 11:28 AM

Re: PC Sim Racing

I do watch my rear view, but the difference in someone tucking in tight for a corner to try and put the pass on you on the exit, and taking you out are not that big of a difference from inside the car. Not to mention, I can't drive looking in my mirrors all the time, or then I'll be missing my brake / turn in markers, or worse, hitting others. When I rode moto x, the saying was that if you're always looking backwards, then that's where you're headed. At the end of the day, I'm just not having fun anymore. It's expensive as hell for a video game, and I spend most of my time being pissed off at other people's stupidity and lack of basic driving skills. I had a lot more fun in the Miatas, and the racing was a lot cleaner, but it doesn't meet my MPR anymore. iRacing in general has been a big love it / hate it thing for me, but the past three weeks (other than goofing around with you guys) have been all hate.

STANG KILLA SS 10-19-2016 11:56 AM

Re: PC Sim Racing

Itll all come together brother. just be glad you got into it now. iRacing is so much better than it used to be. we had all the same old cars, and the tire model was horrendous. iRacing has come SO far in 2 years. Its a great time to start iRacing.
cant wait until you can join us in GT3, especially for the team endurance races.

i dont WATCH my rear view, but if im braking and see a car getting big in a hurry in the rear view in my perifrial vision i let off the brakes and go deep or even off track.

Re: PC Sim Racing

Well, I lied. I got burnt out trying to map all the shit in DCS to my HOTAS setup (holy shitballs, it's a ton of stuff), and decided to get in some laps. Chose the RUF at Summit Point. Got comfortable, and was actually having a lot of fun. My practice ended, and I waited for qualifying to come up, and iRacing froze, same as last night. No other races for two more hours. DAMN YOU iRacing!! :flipoff:

Tommy R 10-21-2016 08:39 AM

Re: PC Sim Racing

The other night Steve and I did a GT3/Blancpain race at LeMans. Unfortunately, we were in different heats, though. I qual'd 14th out of 23 cars in the race, which wasn't great, but at this point I was really still learning the track and figuring out where I was losing big chunks of time here and there. I think my qual time was in the 4:04 range or thereabouts.

I came across several instances of cars spinning in front of or around me and managed to avoid hitting any of them, although in one instance a car behind me clipped me. Cost me a 4x in the race, but there was no visible damage or performance loss.

Had this happen going into the first corner on the first lap. Fortunately, he went off to the right and didn't quite make it back to the racing line after pinballing off the wall.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...lemans1-XL.jpg

On the next lap these guys tangled in front of me. I ducked down to avoid them, but the guy behind me clipped my bumper a bit.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...lemans2-XL.jpg

The scariest was this when we were hauling butt as a group down the longest straight at 170 mph or so and I saw nothing but smoke across the entire track about a quarter mile ahead. A Mercedes split two Audis making it 3 wide, but merged over too soon. He took out himself and an Audi and when they bounced off the wall they took out another Audi. I backed off and lost a position or two, but managed to escape unscathed, which was most important!
https://photos.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...lemans3-XL.jpg

Then this doofus in the Ford must've missed his braking point and plowed into the poor Audi, likely ending his race. The ford driver was a loose cannon and I'm lucky I didn't tangle with him.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...lemans4-XL.jpg

And with some careful accident avoidance and decent lap times, I managed to work my way up to a 6th place finishing spot from my 14th place starting grid. Managed my best lap time of 4:01, as well. Such a fun race!!

^^Yep, congrats to the both of you! I got to ride along in Tommy's car as spotter, in full VR, it was pretty bad ass. Tommy may disagree on the new spotters accent pack though.
