What does the weight penalty do? Add weight to faster guys I assume?

No interest in VRC here, hell I barely do any real RC anymore.

VRC PRO on Steam

This guy does a pretty good job of showing all the details of the game

i cant say that the on road stuff really interests me that much, but i dig the offroad 1/8 buggys and SC trucks

looks like theyve added rally x too, although they dont looks like they handle quite as realistic as the ones above. and appear to be based of the traxxas/Associated rally cars that are just SC trucks with car bodies. not scale.

you can buy this USB dongle that plugs into your/any receiver and use any radio you want to race

they have real world tracks including (former) Mike Hobby shop from Carrolton Texas

you can build and setup your cars from scratch.

they also have drifting

alot of places say they have a free to play version but i cant find it. steam shows $45

Thoughts?
I love VRC. I have the free to play version from Steam, but I've had it since early last year so I'm not sure if it's still available.

Try downloading the free version at these links:

Lap Time Challenge (better late than never)

Proto GT Corvette @ Spa (this weeks official race)
Base Line tune, no Tuning or tweaking
Temp 78F, 55% Humidity, 2 mph wind, N, Partly Cloudy
Track State 100% Usage

Due Monday night at 7pm

New!
Gonna try a weight penalty system out (top right of tune screen)
Tommy +250kg
Steve +125kg
everyone else 0kg

lets see how that pans out, If it swings the lap times too far the other way we can adjust as needed.

Note: with the extra weight you will need to adjust the spring perch height (not rate) because it will be too low and wont pass tech.

Good luck everyone!

Caution: Rant to follow. Proceed at your own discretion.

I know I'm an iRacing newbie. I really like the game, but it's so overpriced. I got a year for around $50 during the special. Regular price is $100 which I would never pay to license a game for one year that I can't even play after it expires. On top of that often when I want to race I'm required to buy a new car class or a track. $12 a pop is ridiculous and I'm not sure how this business model ever survived.

I felt the same way when I was getting started. You have to keep in mind a few things; one, they laser scan the cars and tracks so they're as accurate as possible. That does NOT come cheap for them to do. In addition to that, the amount of people online racing is second to none. That means backend server and bandwidth costs, both of which are also not cheap. iRacing is $11 a month, that's cheaper than going to a movie for me, and I get a whole month of entertainment from it. I only have about six months in it so far, and I've probably spent around $400. Some of it because I had to in order to progress, some of it because I wanted it. There is simply no other online race sim experience that rivals it IMO, but YMMV.

Just bought iracing a few days ago. Any recommendations for starting up? And for what its worth, I do have some "sim" experience from playing Gran Turismo...

Start by putting in a lot of practice laps on your own. Choose oval or road course and practice, practice, practice.

I was never interested in VR until I realized it could be used for simulation racing. Don't make me want a VR headset! I kind of think it would give me motion sickness though. I don't know. I've always gotten motion sickness, but after about two handfuls of concussions I'm even more sensitive to it.

CF race recap.

did the practice race with the guys monday night and did really well. all the fast guys were complaining and struggleing. i ended up finished 2nd

Tuesday night was the official race and i was feeling good.
recap:

ironically even though all the fast guys were complaining, i actually felt really comfortable at Zolder. Had high hopes of a decent finish due to attrition.
I was really quick under braking and in the 2nd gear tight stuff. not so much on the sweepers and exits.

unfortunatly i got a alignment adjustment on the first corner.
The "recreated" iracing replays dont show the severity of the hit or damage, but my wheel was cocked 20* and i couldnt turn right. could hardly see over the dog house in the fender.
was gonna pit, but i missed the entrance/spaced out on lap 2, so i decided the repairs would cost me way more time than the 1-2 seconds per lap.
so i stayed out.

ran a perfect race after that

loved the combo though, maybe next year

my "alignment adjustment" in the red snap on Merc on Turn 1, Lap 1

my best run (3:27) from the group lap challenge last night
Commentary by Tommy and Randy

and Tommy check out what tires are on it...pretty cool.

as you can see from the mistakes, it was far from perfect, and you can tell from the exhaust how timid i was being.

I wasn't aware my hillbilly ass was being recorded. So who's got the top time so far? I had a 3:25.8 at one point, but I think Cory had a lower 3:25.something.

Oh yeah, I'll just leave this here...

i think your in the lead, i believe my best was a 3:27.

i wonder if dirt 4 will be arcady like all the other Dirts?
i gotta say i dont care for the cars shown, except the old red evo. i dont like any of the modern rally cars.
the buggys look cool, and im always a fan of pro2/4 trucks although they didnt show any.

for some reason im not excited about it. the night time graphics did look amazing though. but could be cutscene, not gameplay?
