i can never get my Rfactor 2 to look like all the internet videos. mine always looks like something from early 2000. :(
which is a shame because the physics are so good.

AC is getting tire smoke!

Re: PC Sim Racing

That's awesome! The smoke looks a bit excessive for what I'd imagine to see in real life, but it's better than nothing!

I think my cockpit is shipping from the Netherlands today. One of the first things I want to do once I get it set up with a handbrake is to try my hand at drifting in AC again.

BTW, I'm running out of HDD space badly. I already have an external drive, but would like to add one internally. If I'm not mistaken, is it just a matter of looking into the case to see if there's another connector on the ribbon cable and then just mounting the new HDD and plugging it in?

Any suggestions to look for on a HDD, besides "large" and "solid state"? "thumbsup"

Re: PC Sim Racing

AC has had tire smoke for as long as I've been playing it. That's just a mod for improved smoke apparently.

Tommy, you'll also need to check what type of HDD connector is used on your motherboard. I.E. sata, IDE, etc. Other than that, do some research on read/write speeds too. Not all SSD drives are created equal. I've been a big fan of the Samsung EVO drives for a long time, and they're consistently top rated SSD drives without breaking the bank.

Re: PC Sim Racing

I've only seen faint tire smoke, but you're right. It's more an improvement than a total new thing I guess.

I also like Samsung EVO drives. I have the 500GB version and at around $80 I don't see any reason to go smaller. You can never have too much drive space.

Thanks, Randy! So here's a pic (below) of my PC's guts. Ignore the dust on the fan. LOL! So it looks like I've got a SATA connector? I assume that the connector circled in red would plug into the new drive? What's the best way to mount the new HDD?
https://photos.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...6-X2-HDD-L.jpg

This is the Samsung I'm looking at: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Inch-...pc&sr=1-2&th=1

Thoughts? I see it's offered with a single or dual mount.....which looks like it would adapt a fullsize slot to 1 or 2 solid state drives? Is that what I'd need or is there a way to just piggy back the new SDD drive under the existing one (circled in yellow above)

Looks like Steve suggested a Samsung Evo 250GB for me when I built this rig several years ago.

Re: PC Sim Racing

Yesterday I dusted off my sim rig and was playing around with my force feedback settings on my Fanatec V2 and I finally figured out how to dial out this jerky-ness that I was feeling and I wonder if anyone has some insight on what it was.

What would happen in IRacing and some other sims is while I was parked or moving very slow and steering at a certain point in the wheels rotation I would hit this point where the wheel would kick violently as I passed this point. If I let go of the wheel (not that I do that while racing) it would spin a bit and settle into a jittery mess. This honestly had been happening for years lol but I put up with it or rather just did short stints.

So I found that lowering the FF on the wheel to less than 86 would make this weird jerky spot go away and well I'm just left wondering what that was and what to call that? Was it clipping? seems like I can still make it clip and this doesn't occur. Maybe this is unique to the Fanatec wheels?

Re: PC Sim Racing

I would start by making sure you have the latest PC driver, and firmware on your wheel base. From there, make sure that DRI (drift mode) is set to OFF. I know with my CSW 2.5 base if I have a very light touch on the wheel, or let go of it in certain cars I'll get oscillation (violent side to side movements). I'm sure I could tune that out in the DRI or DPR settings, but that's at the expense of FFB details, and speed and responsiveness of the wheel. And I greatly prefer how the wheel feels with my current settings. Race car drivers don't drive without their hands on the wheel, so I just keep my hands on the wheel personally. Here are my wheel base settings;

SEN - Auto
FF - 100
SHO - Off
ABS - 90 (I have Fanatec pedals and run them through my wheel base though)
DRI - -01
BRF - I adjust this to suit my braking threshold between cars. Again though, only applies with Fanatec pedals ran through the base.
FEI - 50 for most titles
FOR - 100
SPR - Off
DPR - Off

You should try it in VR. It's incredible, and I thought it was dumb for the longest time. LOL

Re: PC Sim Racing

This game NEEDS VR, to be honest. What's the best bang for the buck with regard to VR? I may only use it for ATS, but maybe for racing, too, if I like it enough.

Thanks for the feedback @hpiguy, Its been a while since I even checked for new drivers. At any rate its sorted now and I was just curious to know what might have caused the issue.

I have no idea these days Tommy. I haven't kept up in a while since I'm happy with what I've got.
