well a couple weeks ago i picked up Dirt Rally when it was released and 10% off the first week.

well last night i finally entered the championship and bought my first car and did first stage.

when you start you only have enough money to buy 1 of 2, 1950s FWD cars. a Mini cooper or a Lancia HF. I prefered the looks, weight, and gearing of the Mini, but ended up going with the Lancia based on wheelbase alone. much less twitchy.

i have to say ive been very impressed with the game. the physics, damage, details, graphics, depth everything have been very impressive.
the only thing i havent got right yet is the feel of the wheel and FFB. im still working/tweaking on this. and so is codemasters.

the 115hp Lancia is a bit boring to drive and watch, but yet very challengeing at the same time. my first stage actually ended up being my best. only 1 wreck.

running everything on ultra settings plus 8x+16x AA. of course the capture software lowers quality quiet a bit, still havnt got the OBS software settings up to par with the game settings/graphics.

there are so many little details codemasters did graphicly and animations that are just mind blowing. ironically they usually show up when you screw up a stage or corner.

anyway. my first car and first stage

be sure to 1080p

edit: looks like my work computer cant handle the frame rate and data right i captured at in the YT vid.. its super slow mo and some times glitchy. let me know how it shows on yalls computers.

haha we talked about that at disney with Steve. ive spent a bunch of his. Yeti, Spin tires, Dirt Rally? etc.
great part is no DLC. everything is free. and the release schedule for the next 12 months is already out.
its the details of this game i love.
a few things.
the damage and glowing rotors.
the throttle lifting, clutch pushed in, and the shifter actually going into its appropriate position on in car views. alot of games dont do this.
the drivers let go of there wheel/notes when you flip and cross there arms on there chest like the real guys. so cool.
spectators put on coats and hoods in the colder stages.
tire punctures and coming off the rims.
etc

i had a wreck last night were i slid wide into a fence and the fence stoped me. well there was a camera man behind the fence were i hit and he actually reacted. he turned away and covered his face and camera and crouched. that was so detailed to me.

the more i screw up the more little details i find.

I still need to find a bigger pc case before I can run my new Corsair 750 watt modular power supply and my new MSI Geforce GTX 970 Video card, its too tight of fit for my liking and had heat issues with the case cover installed, I need to start looking for a bigger case, before I jump into online racing, I got a older Logitech wheel and 5.1 surround sound and a nice monitor, I want to be able to use the video card, I did add a shit load of memory and its nice, will be really sweet with power supply and video card running

saved up my shillings from the first few championships and bought my first RWD!
Doesn't look like I can use it until I do all 5 of the FWD championships though. or at least I haven't figured out how in the 30 seconds I looked into it.

had to go with the Stratos. went with the Champion livery to match my red/black/white iracing schemes.

Thanks to Cory I downloaded this yesterday and was quickly addicted! It's the closest thing I've come to my dream racing sim.....racing Baja!! What a blast and I'm hoping to relay my thoughts to Codemasters to come up with a Baja option for future updates. That'd be a dream come true as the physics in this game seem really impressive so far!

Speaking of impressive.....last night I high-centered my Ford Escort and I missed the brief chance to rescue the car. So while I'm trying to rock it back and forth to free it.....I see a shadow over my hood. It looked like something from "War of the Worlds" or something! I thought aliens were attacking and here I was hopelessly stuck in my Escort!! Then I see it's a drone that someone was landing right in front of my car!

Holy crap, are you kidding me?? They have people flying drones in this game? That's over the top! And awesome!

Cory, how did you get a video of your replay? I've been searching how to do that and have come up empty so far.

BTW, I picked up a RWD Escort yesterday as soon as I acquired enough money. I believe I now have a '60s and a '70s series championships running simultaneously. And I'm glad I picked the Escort 'cause I also picked a red/black/white paint scheme and if I'd picked the Lancia, I'm sure it would've been the same as yours!

Oh yeah, and thanks to this game I finally have a decent understanding of rally "pacenotes".....or "route notes" as it apparently the correct term for how they're used in Dirt Rally.

haha yeah in one of the stages the hexacopter starts out hovering right in front of you. thought that was cool too.

i use OBS currently to capture. https://obsproject.com/ its not the most user freindly
i reduced my capture FPS from 60(youtube max) to 30 to see if it helps YT playback on slower computers. i left the data rate the same.

btw if you get high centered again with no option to recover, you can hit esc and recover from the menu there, but the penatly is larger, 15 seconds.

also i have my parking brake maped to 4th gear on the gated shifter. helps give a more realistic feel rather than a button on the wheel. just dont forget to pop it back into neautral when your done, or youll be sitting still trying to figure out why your car wont move! done that a few times.

wait the game has rally cars and can race Baja events, maybe I will need to download it, can some one give me link to get it all started please

I got a Dell XPS 8500 with a 3.4 Gig I-7 and Charter DSL, and I'm not sure about the stock NVidia GeForce GT 630 video card I got now, not sure if I can run the game, as soon as I can find me a new bigger case I will get my MSI GeForce GTX 970 video card and the 750 watt power supply needed to run it installed and up and running for right now I have been playing SpinTires and really like the game

And there is no Baja option for the game.....at least not yet. But the creators have requested input from gamers/racers on what we'd like to see and I posted up on their forum requesting a Baja/desert racing option of some sort. Hopefully it'll happen, but only if a lot of other people request it, too.

Wow Dirt Rally

It reminds me of Rally Masters that I use to play a lot of and Vrally was another, I have hoping the need for speed series would do a off road / rally racing one, but I really would like if the could do the Baja 1000 or the Barstow to Vegas or even go school and due the Mint 400 and the one they used to due that started in Parker Arizona but can't remember the name of it,

it would be sweet to sit behind the wheel of a unlimited Class 8 Trophy truck and tear it up

I tried to the 24hrs at Le Man I have GT Sports Car and another game that you run the 24hrs by yourself or switch with the automatic driver, he is ok but not aggressive enough for me and will easily give up the lead and fade back

when I raced it no one touched my groove, I got about 12 hours or so into it and I could stay awake, I finished it I got third or fourth over all and got first in my class, it was fun for awhile then its not fun anymore

That's interesting! I'd really like if it were compatible with the "sequential or gated shifter" like on my G25. I never use the gated shifter in racing situations, but use the sequential option more often than any other. I only use the paddles for the really fast cars, usually.

If it's sold without a shifter (per the 2ns article) and my G25 shifter is compatible, I'll be a happy boy!

yeah ill be curious what they do there as well. I do love my gated shifter for the slower street cars like the Miata. anything else is just unrealistic cheating to me.
ie if the car has a gated shifter in real life, that's what I use.

I wonder if they will go full modular.
the extra buttons and direction pad on that wheel would be so nice.

Without reading this thread can anyone tell me a good recent rally game? I really liked colin mcrae 04 way back and was hoping something equivalent was out there now... Getting a new computer next week. Thanks in advance.

Edit/ just read about dirt rally above looks very similar - probably will fit the bill anything else out there ?
