I would not have watched the movie in person, but pulling it was probably a mistake. Of course all it would take is one lunatic to shoot someone at a theater and everyone would call Sony out as being money grubbing.

The main question about this Sony ordeal is does the media have the right to print the stolen documents?

The hackers released the movies and dumped the emails on the net. There is no getting the shit back into the goose, but news and gossip sites print the emails and Sony threatened them for printing them. I am all for free speech, but these liberal Hollywood douchebags calling each other babies is not really news.

Pulling the movie just validates the hackers threats. Even if they are directly tied to NK, they don't have the capability to do anything substantial.

Should the news agencies reprint the leaked data? No. Not for legal reasons, but for plain ol' acting like civilized human beings reasons. Of course, civilized thinking and integrity is in short supply in the media pool these days... Unless it was something that the public really needed to be aware of, it shouldn't have been reported.

This could have happened to any studio, any news network, any corporation. Their best bet, for the sake of them all, would have been to back each other up and not let this event gain any traction.

IMO, it just a stupid movie making fun of another country.

Pretty sure North Korea and many other countries has a film out about USA in similar fashion.

Who cares.

Pulling out the film just made us look like a vagina.

On Fox and Friends this morning Judge Neapolitan (the guy who looks like Reuses monkey) had the brilliant idea to offer our locked up top most notoriously dangerous hackers freedom for caring out a massive cyber retaliation. I think the idea rocks myself it's much better than backing down from these North Korean punks. Show the movie and send NK to cyber hell.

I think it's a bunch of pissed off artist that hacked Sony.
This all started several months ago in the CGI community.
It came to light that Sony, Pixar, Dreamworks and a bunch of other companies had a "gentleman's agreement" not to "poach" artist from each other... creating a fixed salary system.
These companies are all being sued now.
It really blew up after Life Of Pi won a bunch of awards and the artist were never paid for the work.

Hoopty brings up a good point though... It could be that our government is taking the NK threat (which I think was originally unrelated) and spinning it to take control of the web from the people... much like 9-11 spawned The Patriot Act.

Here's a short doc on what happened after Pi

personally i care more about the safety and freedoms of the 130 something schoolkids that were murdered by a militant islamic group than i do some stupid movie produced by sony execs who are over priveledged and obviously completely stupid and chickenshit.

korea being blamed was all over the news last night, i can see being responsible and not daring some crazy nutbag dictator to bomb a movie theatre during the holiday season, but its a HUGE fail for sony if they dont release the movie digitally so we can all watch it from out homes or whatever.

im just kinda suspicious of the entire situation... sony seemingly made it as easy as possible to get themselves hacked, and theres people working very hard to try and lock down the internet. id be willing to be sooner or later obama is gonna get on the tv and talk about a new age of terror, one that doesnt take down buildings but instead infiltrates our homes and our data...

The fixed bid mentioned in the documentry is the root cause of all issues. Another issue is where they mentioned, the artist creates a shot and then it gets rejected and they have to do it all again and again. Total miscommunication, trial and error or purposeful ingnorance on part of the movie makers.

Don't understand the psycology of those people that make millions through movie making. Can't they keep the supply chain happy? How much ever they earn they still want more!

Money + Politics + Greed = Cluster fawk.

Funny, I posted this a week or so ago and you were the first to respond, yet you dont remember. Now all of the sudden its something you feel is important.

Was pulling the film chickensh!t? Yup. Does it make our country look like vagynas? Yup. But we have been for some time now.

The powers that be will do what they want. That includes the govt, corps and hackers. What do ya wanna do, start a fawking petition?

I personally feel like at this point any american who would watch it is giving a big middle finger to NK.

Its not much but if it leaks its a way of getting around the powers that be and sending a FU to NK.

Plus I just wanna see the damn flick.

I had the same thought the other day. What if this is a big scheme within the media corps to better regulate the net, and Sony was the poor schlub who pulled the short straw...

Still, I can totally see KN pulling something like this.

Its a rather ingenious marketing strategy for a movie. Many news outlets who wouldn't have otherwise cared are now running plenty of spots for it.
