While the guys were doing the drywall, I thought I'd take advantage of the unseasonably nice weather. Never thought I'd be able to paint the exterior in February.

Now it looks like it was meant to be there all along.

I was wondering why they are charging a steep permit fee for an extension to an already built house. I just got to know that there are
1] Building permit
2] Electrical permit
3] Plumbing permit
4] Mechanical permit
5] Mobile home placement permits
6] Sign permits

Are you guys spared in any way?

I too have been following this build project from the get go. Living vicariously through you I wish I had a nice shop.
You really dont want that Drywall going anywhere! Lots of screws I've been Drywalling for about 10 years. Looks like you had some nice help doing that.
I've been hanging 5/8 on a big project lately. Is that 1/2?

It's pretty ridiculous. There was an $1800 fee that went toward local schools. I got off easy though....my neighbors are building a 2200 sq ft house and they're into the permits $12,000. My dad built a 4000 sq ft duplex in Multnomah county (Portland) last year and the permits and fees were $45,000. $15,000 just in county parks fees.

Thanks!
I think they had some issue with the blown in insulation. They had to screw the heck out of it to get it to pull in. Yes the drywall is all 1/2".

Living room drywall repairs are done.

Addition is textured too. Time for primer and paint.

Oh I wish they were for the War Pit. Since I have my awesome basement shop I thought it was only fair that my wife gets her own special room. The laundry/sewing room is going to be that. It's about 10'x11'. I ordered custom cabinets and got them installed Sunday.

The far left cabinet will be a laundry chute from the new upstairs bedroom.

The sink and faucet that will be going in.

I'm currently working on the counters in this room. They will be black granite tile. The floors will be heated with a dark gray ceramic tile. Thanks for watching, and I'll be updating throughout the rest of the process.

Love the laundry shoot. You put some real thought into this entire addition

I bet you can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. (no train reference intended)

Good looking build mate

Those permit fees are out of control

Quick question, is it normal to use so much ply?

In Australia you wouldn't use that much in half a suburb

No, I have the has fireplace away. We hardly ever used it and it used up so much of the wall that I didn't have room for my TV. I'm planning to install a real woodstove in the near future. I have access to as much free firewood as I can cut.

Thanks, yeah the permit fees are pretty crazy around here. What do you mean so much ply? Instead of OSB or ? We are lucky to have a pretty strong timber industry here in the NW and I'd rather use real plywood and framing lumber any day.

Can't do any of that down here... It all has to be CBS construction. Dang hurricane belt. Internal framing can be wood, but nothing external or structural.

Stick built houses are pretty much the norm in this part of Florida.

In Victoria, Australia, we just throw a frame up, then wrap it in that blue and silver paper, then just clad it in what ever you want, weather board, brick, or this blue board\render stuff

We use ply wood very sparingly I spose

Looks great though, looks even better you have managed to blend the old and new so well
