War Pig's new addition/shop.

So I've been really busy since last June. I'm acting as the general contractor on a 1500 sq ft addition to my house. It's been on paper for 5-6 years and we finally decided to break down and do it. With 4 kids we were just running out of room. We love our house and neighborhood so the decision was easy to add on. Since we only have a 9000 sq ft lot, I knew that if I ever want a shop I had to go down not out. Our existing house is a 15 year old 1900 sq ft two level house with a crawlspace. I knew that it was going to take some work building a full basement next to our existing house.

Enjoy the adventure.....

Our house. Addition will be on the left side.

First up was getting the kiddos involved. Time to remove the trim and gas fireplace.

Grass has to go first.

After digging down to the bottom of the footings, it's time for the concrete chainsaw.

Foundation is coming out!

Dug down 5 feet to solid ground. Next is support beams and temporary posts.

http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...psm7eeak5d.jpg

There were 6x10 beams under the floor beams to support the house while we excavated for the basement. I used a 30 ton jack and some 6x6 posts to support it.

I thought that you'd lay some temporary track and wheel in one of these to help with the project! "thumbsup"

I hired someone to do the majority of the excavating. My machine just wasn't big enough and with my 40+ hour a week job, I just didn't have time.

This is what 250 yards (23 dump trucks) of dirt looks like.

Looking pretty sketchy! That hole is 9 1/2 feet deep.

Re: War Pig's new addition/shop.

After having the foundation contractor look at the hole, he told me he needed it cleaned up a little better. I cut a ramp down into the hole and drove my 35 into it. Spent the day cleaning and leveling it. Rented another machine for the day to scoop the dirt from the hole, and eventually help pull my machine out.

Pretty sure your shop at home is great, but you're welcome to come down any time.

I don't have one of those, just my little John Deere 35 and a couple skid steer loaders.

You and me both, but it's on private RR property (mine). I just don't want a bunch of U4 guys messing around on it while I'm not there.
