$1 says the fuel line is sucking air instead of fuel.

What you don't think I checked the fuel lines when I changed the fuel filter or how about when I changed the fuel pump cause there is only a small rubber section of hose at the filter that connects to the tank and fuel pump and it all steel line to the pump then it another small rubber section and the hose from the pump to carb and how about when Mark tested the pump you don't think he looked at the lines and double checked what I looked at when I changed the parts out he did not see any splits or cracks or where it rubbed anywhere I might just go buy a new ignition coil, there less than $70 bucks and take the electrical out of the equation, so next time I will know for sure its not the coil I'm going to test the coil with a ohm meter and see if something came loose or if it has a bad contact I'm going to work on the carb also tomorrow Mark owns and wrenches out of his own Automotive shop and specializes in Off road/Desert/rock crawlers/ trial trucks and what ever else you got if you got the cash and is good people and we help each other out I have a few friends that I can count on and Mark is one of them Last edited by kgb424; 07-29-2015 at 12:10 AM. |

no DUUUUUUUde I understand it starving for fuel, that's why I'm taking the throttle body off and look at needle and seat on the float, that Marks suggestion but it also could be the coil going south cause might get too hot or short out under load cause its the original coil and its close 300,000 miles so maybe it going out, that is also Mark thinking Mark would taken it apart and check it, right in my drive way, the day he came over but he had pick up his kids so I need to get off ass and take the throttle body off and check it out test the coil just cause I can Last edited by kgb424; 07-29-2015 at 12:40 AM. |

Sounds like the float level is dropping due to lack of fuel feeding it.... I don't think its sucking air but more probable the fuel hose is coming apart inside and causing it to act like a one way flapper valve (brake lines will do the same thing).. |

most if not all of my mystery car problems were from the parts between the obvious parts going bad. bad ground, corroded connections that are shorting out at some certain harmonic vibrations, pinhole worn into fuel pump pickup line... pic as proof. i had an issue with fuel pressure bleeding off, it ran ok but would NEVER start on first crank like it used too. if i had just blindly swapped out the assumed bad pump and not checked out the lines id never have noticed the hole in the factory pump tube. definitely could see a hole or corroded line/connection somewhere in the fuel path thats fine up until its easier for the system to suck air than fuel. same thing could happen with a ruptured or corroded/dirty line that acts like a floppy booger... itd be easy to check by just bypassing the tank and stock lines with some fuel hose and a gas can. |

Double check the dist cap for a hair line crack or traces of arching inside. A crack will give you those symptoms. Had a similar problem on an old Impala, wouldn't go past 35mph,sputtered,backfired and just wouldn't run.I rebuilt the carb, dropped and drained the tank, New sending unit and fuel pump. Couldn't figure it out. Called my old high school auto mechanics teacher and told him what was wrong and what I did. His response was "Oh hell...its the dist cap. I thought I taught you better." Dist cap it was.

I took the Throttle body off and the venture on the secondary side was black and sooty so I sprayed it out and cleaned it out as best I could I checked the needle and seat, no dirt, no residue, it was clean, the float is at the proper level and not bent, it does not hang up it moves smoothly I pulled all the jets out one at a time and sprayed carb cleaner thru the jets and all of the fuel passages, no dirt just clean carb cleaner came thru I put it all back together and replaced the hose from the pump to carb, cause I over tighten it and crushed the hose with the clamps, so I bought new clamps which are the right size this time and new piece of hose I then took out the Ignition coil and used my ohm and tested the coil between + and - negative terminals its supposed to .03 to .04 ohms, I getting .07 to .08 depending on which ohm meter I use. so I think the coil is bad, I also checked the cap and rotor, and there is no cracks, no uneven wear I also checked the pickup in the distributor with the ohm meter and it with range its supposed to be so I bought a new coil from Napa, it will be at the store for pickup tomorrow morning I'm going install the new coil and see what happens cause the secondary venture was the only place there was dirt, all the jets and passages were clean and I sprayed thru all of them to make sure so it might need to be taken farther apart or completely tore down and cleaned Last edited by kgb424; 02-04-2016 at 03:46 PM. |

Did you drive it after you cleaned the carb? Does it still do it. I wouldn't order a coil if you didn't at least try the carb out yet. No need to waste money on guessing. Try one thing at a time. From my experience, you can't see the dirt that is messing up the carb. |

the coil is the original Toyota factory one it got close to 300,000 miles on it and it testes out bad no I didn't drive it, cause it gets close to a hundred degrees here daily so I do my wrenching in morning when its cool and soon as it hot I pickup my tools and I'm done for the day I got the carb cleaned out and reassembled and the coil taken out and tested and its bad according to my Chilton's Toyota Manual So I called it a day and went to Napa and bought a new coil it will ready for pick up tomorrow going to install the coil and drive it and if there still a problem then I'll pay Mark for his time to work on it at his shop if it runs long enough to drive it too his shop cause most roads around are 45 but people do 50 or more easy, same with the high way its 65 there pushing 75, 80 miles per hour and same in the 55 mile per hour section there pushing 60, 65 miles per hour and pushing you the whole way to go faster so my truck won't make it the 10 miles to his shop I'm hoping the coil will fix it or if not let me do a least 45, 5o miles per hour so I can take it too the shop Last edited by kgb424; 02-04-2016 at 03:45 PM. |

How the hell does a coil last 300,000 miles? Did you pull this thing behind an RV for 280,000 of those miles? Time to put a new carb on that thing. Preferably one that sits on top of a huge blower. |
