The coil is fine. If everything is as you describe then you're dealing with a fuel feed issue, period. Last edited by WHITE-TRASH; 07-29-2015 at 08:28 PM.

He's only asked the same question 9 different ways so it's gotta be low on transmission fluid.

Every coil that has gone out in any of my numerous vehicles over the years, when it went it was gone. No kind of bad, no spark at all.

| re: I need help - we todd did I'm not familiar w/ your particular carb, but from the pic the float looks to be set a little off into the 'lean' area. Last edited by BigSki; 07-29-2015 at 11:43 PM. |

Your looking at the throttle body upside down if you look at the way it sits in the carb its where it is supposed to be I also thought maybe the float arm got bent but it doesn't seem to be to me going to find out tomorrow if it runs after I switch out the wrong blinker fluids and that might be the secret why it doesn't run there a failsafe when you use the wrong fluid the whole system slowly shuts down and when you the proper fluid in the proper blinker the truck resets and runs maybe I got my turkey baster ready to change fluids Last edited by kgb424; 07-30-2015 at 12:41 AM. |

What exactly did you block off and what did you do with the sensors and wiring? I think youre running in the wrong direction. All that smog shit you blocked off actually does stuff and is connected to things. Last edited by thecrusader; 07-30-2015 at 01:03 AM.

Float is a tad low but not near enough to cause the symptom.

I have never looked up the spec--just use the same method I have on every carb I have ever done with zero issues.

Sounds like no vacuum advance to me. You need adequate fuel and vacuum advance to have power to go above 55. I wouldnt work on a carbed 22r, so I am not sure if you can see the advancing arm. You also didnt mention the conditions in which it started doing this? Were you driving it one day and it just started? Progressively worse? Purchased in this condition? If she revs up fine in neutral without sputter or hesitation....And she flat out refuses to go above 55, then the ignition is OK. If this condition was present at purchase id say check for a clogged cat.

it started last Friday it was over a hundred degrees, I was coming home from the vets was doing 70 miles an hour on the highway it started sputtering and back firing I let off the throttle and was able to turn off the highway and made it home at 40 miles per hour I replaced the fuel filter and mechanical fuel pump My Mechanic friend tested the delivery of the fuel pump check the fuel lines for cracks did see anything I replaced the coil it helped but didn't fix it cause now I go 35 miles per hour, pushed up 45 miles per hour, then pushed it 50 miles per hour, push it from 50 to 55 its starts sputtering and back firing and you can feel the power fading, let off the throttle for a little bit then give a little gas you can feel the power build back up I pulled the throttle body off, took out and cleaned every one of the jets and sprayed out all the passages with carb cleaner, nothing was blocked and the cleaner came out clean no dirt, or debris I showed the throttle body to Mark, he looked at the needle and seat, just like I did and it was clean no dirt or debris he then checked to see if the arm on the float was bent it does look like he then checked the level of float and said it looked ok so its got to be in the carb cause at high speed its starving for fuel so I don't understand what the xxxx is going on Its got a new fuel filter, new fuel pump, and now a new coil, and I pulled the throttle body of twice, and still don't see any blockages Last edited by kgb424; 07-30-2015 at 01:49 PM. |

aint got a bad gas cap or plugged tank vent or anything do ya? i read something in this thread where somebody commented on somebody tearing out all the smog stuff. if one of those things was a charcoal canister and the lines were all plugged, it could be the tank aint got no way to vent.

As everyone else has been saying all along, it might in the fuel line or tank. A pin hole in the line won't leak but will suck air. Could be in the steel line down the frame. Get some rubber line and zip tie along the steel line bypassing the steel line from the tank to the pump. then drive it and see what you get. This would tell you if it was the steel line sucking air or not. Rubber line would be cheap test if nothing else is working. Keep in mind the rubber line is temporary and should not be used as a replacement line. Same issue on my 59. I would lose pressure at higher speeds, vent line was clogged creating a reverse vacuum effect in the tank. |
