I'm thinking of buying a new bike. Maybe a fs 29er. I know I want a fs bike. What would you guys recomend for a xc rider. If I stick with 26" wheels I have everything else, just need a frame. If I go 29 I would most likly get a whole bike as I would need wheels, fork and frame. Cole

There are so many variables. What type of riding do you do mostly? How big are you? What size frame do you ride? You going full suspension, hardtail, or full rigid? Geared, single speed, or fixed? You did mention XC, so that is a start. A lot of people that run 29ers like them, but they do take a little getting used to. I personally haven't ridden one, I have an old Specialized M2 hardtail with a 100mm Psylo to slacken the head angle a bit. Then I just got done building a rigid singlespeed out of an old Schwinn Moab Al frame. Can't wait until spring to try that out. What I have heard, mostly from a good friend that went 29, is that if you ride really technical trails, with a lot of sharp slow corners and switchbacks, stick with 26. Otherwise, go 29. Think about funds. If you have a good 26 setup waiting for a frame, hard to pass that up. If you have the cabbage for a 29, good for ya. I like to build my own bikes, so I scavenge e-Bay, Dirt Rag, etc for parts. If you want "turnkey", go with the 29. I think it is the trend, and more and more manufacturers are getting on the bandwagon. Either way, its a new bike! Oh, saw you said fs in the post. Sorry!

The flight is a good ride. I've ridden one a few times. Right now I have a redline monocog ss that I built up last year. It is by far my best xc bike I have ever ridden. I'm faster on that than any of my previous bikes. The problem is when I go other places the trails are not groomed like our are here. People compair or trails to bobsled runs silky smooth and fast. When I go other places I have a hard time on the rough climbs with a hard tail SS. I jump on a friends fs SUGAR and spin right up with no problem. 6'3" #185 XC Mostly 19.5 for XC Have up to $2000 have built my last 5 bikes Last edited by Cole82; 12-26-2006 at 10:43 PM.

See, now you do know what you are doing! My buddy has a Fisher, he loves it! I have no personal experience, so any recommendations are second hand or from reviews. Good luck to ya, I'm a little jealous.

Why Jelous? All my friends are saying to keep the ss and don't go geared FS. As my friend Ken said, "You can out pedal me with one gear imagine if you got 26 more gears."
