I finally bought myself a plasma cutter! Woohoo! Being that it's just for home use on the odd automotive project, I never could bring myself to spend serious money on a name brand unit. A good friend bought a 40A Chinese unit 10 or 11 years ago for +/- $600 and it's still in service (has needed minor repairs) and I just assumed that was still the bottom of the market. Heck, Harbor Freight's goes for $669. Then I got an email from Jeg's and saw their rebranded 40A plasma cutter for $233! Of course, I knew Jeg's didn't actually make it, so I did some digging and found the identical "Cut40" for $169. That got me wondering how cheap a unit with pilot arc could be had (you still have to scratch the other high frequency units to get them to start, no fun when cutting over crusty, non-conductive junk/paint/rust, or expanded metal.) I ended up going with a <$250 "Cut50P" 50A unit with pilot arc, should be able to cut 1/2" allegedly in a single pass, which is the thickest I've ever needed to cut at home. I haven't got it setup yet, but I'm looking forward to using it on a long overdue project I've been avoiding on my K5! Here's the one I bought: https://www.ebay.com/itm/50A-Plasma-....c100891.m5206 I was glad to see that it came with a much nicer torch than what's shown in the ebay pics too. I do plan to open the case and inspect/clean up all the wiring and air lines/connections before I ever put power to it. |

Nice Jato! What tires are you going to run? I’m running that same reedy motor in the Capra, too. The rest of y’all have made some cool purchases too! Laser cutter, vfd’s, a trail king. Very cool. |

I've had these Pit Bull tires for a long time. I got them on a huge Black Friday sale or something from Pitbull. The tires sat in bags and the Alien Kompound looks and feels less than stellar. If I end up not liking them I'll go with Proline Hyrax in Predator compound. | |
