Motorcycle discussion

Who else rides and is into motorcycles? I just got my license
and bought one and have been playing with it ever since. I think
the bike bug has bitten me. Love riding and swinging spanners on the bike.

This is my ride, 1999 dr350s ,turning it into a cafe racer/vintage style bike

This is when i got it a few weeks ago-

And this is after a couple of weeks of grinding and welding
and modifying and swapping parts-

Always messed with cars but my new love seems to be on two wheels.
Anyone else share this interest? Keen to see and hear what other
people have and if they ride.

Cheers

Re: Motorcycle discussion

I grew up with motorcycles, my dad has had a shop since he was high school aged and went into business for himself in 1984. I raced motocross from the time I was 8 until about 19 or so, got a nice gimp to my step because of it too...

I still ride when I can, only have 2 bikes right now but its all fun.

Most recent pic of my first street bike. 2004 Ducati Monster 800. It's a little different than the pic but almost the same. Chopped the end of the frame off, different rearsets (not in the pic), clip on bars, $2 paint job after a wreck, removed gauges, individual filter pods, removed mufflers.

Next is the most fun bike I have ever ridden. Kymco Super 9 scooter. 50cc of 2 stroke fury. When I bought it I could only do 30 miles an hour because it was limited but now can hold 55 or so. Aftermarket pipe, rollers and clutch, removed filter box for open filter and adjusted the carb. Removed everything under the tail and relocated the license plate. Got rid of the add on looking blinkers and put them in the tail light and front housings. Pic is from the day I bought it, can't seem to find recent pics.

I have three so I can spare one if it means I get another bike

Re: Motorcycle discussion

Though I've had a few other hobbies momentarily steal the show, I've been riding motorcycles consistently for 20 years now. When I was heavily involved in 4wd's I started realizing that it was easier/more fun to ride the same trails on 2 wheels. In the motorcycle world it seems like it's much more about the rider than the equipment and I can have fun and go amazing places on almost any bike. Most of my bikes have been offroad only dirtbikes and I've had quite a few dualsports over the years. Currently down to 4 bikes, and only the KTM has a license plate, but I'm sure that number will go up as the kids gain interest and/or when I'm physically able to ride again.

A couple fun pictures from relatively recent history (within the last decade anyway!)

Rubicon trail '10 (with some RC Crawlers in the background!):

Playing at Pismo on my dualsported CRF450r:

At "The Mailbox" on Mojave Rd. in '08:

Barstow to Vegas '11:

I'll probably screw up the links, but here's a video of me riding over a teeter totter over a "river":

and 102mph (on GPS, the stock speedo was a bit optimistic at 109mph) on a dry lake:

I've definitely been riding more cautiously in the last couple of years and now my 5 year old son is starting to get the hang of riding his JR50. I'm sure we'll be riding the trails together in the blink of an eye. That's living the dream!

Re: Motorcycle discussion

Keep them coming, some awesome bikes and stories. I wouldnt ride some of the bikes above for fear of becoming dead.
Ive got a serious, long term condition with my back so taking risks on the bike isnt even something i can entertain.
If i come off i'm almost certain to be in a chair.

Wanted to get a bike while i still can.

My bike still needs to be lowered quite a bit, and ive got a tube steel swingarm that will take two rear mounted
springs/shocks to complete the look i'm after. Not bad though, passed the test after only 2 lessons
and only had the bike for a few weeks.

One thing i like about bikes is you can get results fast and a lot cheaper than with cars. Also
the fun factor per dollar is amazing.

My bike has 30hp and uses stuff all petrol and outruns most things with 4 wheels around here.haha
To get the "throw back" acceleration out of something with 4 wheels usually takes big dollars, where
you can hop on a standard bike for a couple of thousand dollars and scare the shit out of
yourself.

Some of the bikes posted up here, you could REALLY scare the shit out of yourself.lol

Do you guys rev match when your shifting down? Ive been looking into it
as the thunk of it dropping down a cog (especially riding 2 up) seems
pretty harsh for the gbox.

Cheers.

Just started riding this time last year.

Now I have a 2004 Kawasaki ZX6R 636 for pavement and a 2004 Kawasaki KLR 650 for gravel/trails.

First track day at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL and it rained. Kinda bummed the day, but at least I got to learn my limits in the wet stuff.

2006 SV650

I do regret selling it some days. But now I have my CRF450 dirt bike to play with. Hope to get another street bike in the future.

Found a couple fun pics. The first one is my first bike, a suzuki GZ250. I cut the giant fenders down a bit.
The
poop chute" was my second bike, a Ninja 500 that was laid down so many times the plastics disintegrated. Finally someone did a U-turn in front of me and the bike was a write off.
Did have a Zephyr 750 somewhere but can't find any pics. And my current ride, a good ole SV650. I commute all week (well except winter) and wanted something that would start every morning without a headache :P
