Default Pay-Pal wants a crapload of personal info?

Hi guys...

I saw something that interested me in the classifieds, so I went to wake up my long dormant pay-pal account. After I logged in, I did the code verification but now they want a photo ID, address and SS number?!?!? Uh... HELL NO!!! This was on the official site, btw, not some stupid scam link.

I did a search here but found only one mention of this. Is this a new pay-pal thing? I'm certainly not forking over all that info for a service I rarely use.

Advice?

Sounds shady. I don't recall ever giving a photo ID or SSN.

Are you really sure you were on the right site? You didn't click a link through an email or anything did you?

Hope it works out for you.

No. This is coming from the legit paypal site. I didn't get there via scam email.

Is your account linked to a bank account that it can pull from? Paypal doesn't have a photo of my DL that I can recall, but they do require your SSN if your account is "verified".

I think it is linked to a long ago cancelled debit card. That is how long it has been since I've been on pay pal.

I did try creating a new account via my other email address. They still want a SS number if I want to add money.

This is only for adding money into your paypal account. If you have your PP linked to a debit / credit card or bank account, then there is no need to do this anyway.

Yup that's all its for ...... to Verify your account and cover their ass for tax and terrorism reasons.

I have customers who just use PPal as a flow through account and just come up 'unverified'. If your linked to an active bank account it can verify then you should be all set.
