It was a great pleasure having you and Marcia over for dinner. I wish we had had more time. I feel honored to have met you both. A fine example of two people living right, and to the fullest. Thank you for taking the time to come see us.

Eli was sad when he woke up and you guys were gone. He wanted to know when you were coming back. My answer was "anytime they want to".

Probably be seeing you in a little over a week. I will let you know when we get to California!

Jeepiac,
Why not above ground diesel tanks? More condensation or?

Lucas makes pretty good products, my diesel buddies say to regularly run some additives for moisture etc., here's one with water emulsifier.

So we made it to Moab this evening, and there is a huge event going on, jeeps all over the place. We will hold this camp site until you get here!!!

Ok, time for a little update, we missed Day 38. We were so deep into a canyon in a little town called Cotopaxi (on the Arkansas River) we didn't even have radio. A few photos of how we got there.

The drive-in theater camp ground.

I tried to get this guy to trade me straight across, for the extra room, but he wouldn't go for it

A few photos going through the pan handle of Oklahoma.

And to Cotopaxi Colorado and the Arkansas river.

End of Day 38. Your thinking the same thing I am, day 38, still in Colorado, I don't think we are going to make it in 45 days.

Now for day 39. Still having fuel problems, when we get close to 1/4 tank we start losing power. I guess I'm going to have to stop at a shop and see about getting the tank drained or nurse it home by keeping my tank above 1/4 of a tank.

Destination today, M O A B So some more boring pics to get here.

Some pics at Blue Mesa Reservoir in Colorado.

Ok, we are moving into the canyon lands.

And from our campground in Moab!!

We are going into the Arches National Park in the morning.

Marcia and Ernie

Incredible pictures, my favorite so far. Blue Mesa looks amazing. That's definitely going on the bucket list.

Condensation! Condensation! Condensation!
It's also a good idea to not get fuel when you see the tanker truck filling the tanks and stirring the settlement and water up in the tanks. Yes, almost all fuel storage tanks have a little water in them. Above ground and below.

Ernie, I'm really dreading your vacation ending and this thread stopping. It's been the most enjoyable one I've seen for quite a while, and thanks for sharing your trip and the amazing photos with us. I'm really thinking you need to make this an annual event

Is there some kind of mineral that makes the water so blue and reflective? Absolutely beautiful.

Sorry to hear about the constant fuel issue, there must be a lot of water in the tank if it keeps happening at 1/4 level.

Thanks Poprivet, it was a cool pace to visit. When we left the RV park in Moab I left your name and # and told them you would be there next year.

Thanks Jon, I'm really glad some of you guys are not bored sick with the thread!
I ran your idea by Marcia about a annual event and she said if you could raise the funds she would be up to doing it again next year!!!

Thanks for the invite, but we are going to stay on I-5 so we can see our family in Eagle Point on the way home. We miss our grandbabies!

I think a lot of the blue color was a reflection from the sky.
The problem we are having has me baffled, if I'm not mistaken water is heaver than gas, and if the fuel pick-up is in the bottom of the tank we shouldn't be running at all????? Any thoughts guys?

We are only going to do Moab/Arches this trip. We have done all of the other.

Ernie

OK day 40, and if you don't like a lot of photos stop here! Cause you can't do the Arches in just a couple picks!
For the most part I'm just going to let the photos speak for themselves. If you have never been here, you have to put it on your Bucket List

Don't even go there!!!

The tiny house.

Popular place, They have a cool campground here with some picnic areas tucked into the base of the cliff faces.

The trail into the sand stone arch.

Very beautiful geological formation!!

Trail coming out.

That is about a third of the Arches photos, the rest are along I-70/50 coming through Utah.

I hope you guys and gals enjoy these, it just about wore me out just posting this evening. By the way, we are in Salina Utah tonight.
Thanks for following along!!!!

Awesome pics thanks Ernie!

Could be pinhole in fuel pickup tube inside tank. Could be moisture corrosion related or not.

Most modern fuel systems have two fuel pumps, pickup lower pressure and high pressure near the injectors. In tank pump could be weak and less fuel in tank is less fuel weight pressing down and helping pickup pump.

Just some things I've seen before, can be difficult to find problems like this.

I had to upgrade my lift pump when I hopped up my 12v. It was starving for fuel.

" Don't even go there "

answer to gas/water weight: I looked up the specific gravities of each, at 60* F:

Water- 0.998

Gasoline- 0.713

Conclusion: water has a higher density, so it would be "heavier". It would go to the bottom of the tank. That would explain a lot. Short of draining the tank, maybe some 'dry gas' type of chemical additive ( as mentioned above) might help a bit.

Beautiful scenery!! One of the few times I'd like to be able to do a multiple "like"

Diesel motor home, but water specific gravity still higher.

Ernie, I think Natedog recommended it also, Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant, it's a fuel conditioner, just follow the directions on the bottle. 2-3 oz per 10 gal of gas, the stuff works great for getting moisture out of the fuel system. Pick it up at any auto parts store, $12/qt. 1 bottle should solve your problem.
