I feel your pain...

I have salesmen that send the full size image from their phones when they email me stuff. As a result, I have to open the image in Paint and reduce it by 80% so I can see what the hell I'm looking at.

dont have to have a huge monitor to run 1920 X 1080 resolution. the current industry standard. weither its a 17" or 25" or 50" 16:9 monitor. even your most basic $300 computer from walmart runs this res.

an 800 wide pic only fills half of a 1920 wide resolution.

sorry to hear that C. i always liked your little comments. and i am lazy.
however on all my PCs the forum automatically resized every picture to 800 or 1024 wide no matter how large the photo is.
now if everyone elses isnt doing that then then yeah i can see that as annoying.

here is what i see.
standard 1920 x 1080 resolution(1080p)
i checked, note how the raw 3200 pixel pic, is auto resized to 1024. this is how i see all oversized pics. weither i posted them or anyone else did. on win xp, and win 7, on 4 different computers. its does it automatically.

note all the empty space. defiantly no scrolling required.

I downloaded a free app called "Resizer". Open pic you want to resize, choose size you want, save. The upload to Photobucket. Takes me an extra minute tops. And I don't even have to open the laptop, can do it all from my phone or ipad.

The real tricky part is making sure I pic the right picture when I upload to photobucket. hahaha

^^Last example looks fine to me. I can understand not wanting people to post 4K images, but 800x600 in 2016 is a bit silly. It's basically the equivalent of saying the site hasn't progressed since the day it was started.

phone browsing and the associated issues with it is your choice. often times just different browsers/apps will view/display the same site entirely differently. as you can see in my screen cap there is no viewing issue. only in yours.

i just did some photoshop checking. the forum allows you room to type about 1600 pixels wide. however you can only post pictures that are only 800 pixels wide. leaving that huge gap to the right of the picture thats just empty. as seen in the screen cap i posted above(and that is actually a 1024 wide pic!). had i not hit enter after the word "on" the words would have kept going all the way to the right.

Hpiguy said it well. 800 X 600 in 2016 is just silly.

Or maybe the large monitors are silly?

Our phones got smaller and now they barely fit your pocket. Whatever sells. Like to those that sit four feet away from a 62" TV.

It's a simple rule really and it's there to accommodate people that don't have huge monitors or even a fast internet connection. Believe it or not, there's a lot of people out there that don't have either.

They aren't large monitors these days, they're normal, and have been for years. Hell, a lot of phones are 1920x1080 these days. And I do live in podunk where the internet is shit. But, hey, whatever.

Guilty of this and my attitude was I WANT people to zoom in on my shit-- I've got nothing to hide!

BUT TBH its just laziness and/or you don't have software that will resize (its free).

Also not only phones - people use tablets a lot and mine will freeze on those big reddit DIY posts - royally pisses me off when they don't give you the image of the finished product FIRST- and then make you scroll through 50 pics to see the end results because this chokes my device - its impossible.

Normal for some is not normal for others. Just because you want to be up to date with your big TV and VR headset and games, doesn't mean everyone else feels the need to be. If it ain't broke don't fix it kinda thing. Sorta like the rule being discussed…

i dont think you understand resolution sizes maybe?
a 14" monitor and 50" monitor both use the same industry standard 1920 x 1080 resolution. both have the exact same amount of width in pixels. the larger display just makes those pixels larger.

i did another example to show the rediculous nature of the 800 X 600 is.
we are allowed to type 1625 pixels wide. but we are only allowed to post pictures that are 800 pixels wide. what are we doing with all the extra space? besides squinting to see the tiny picture.

if youd like i can do this same screen capture on a 17", 24", and a 50" monitor, and guess what they all would look exactly the same! a larger monitor doesnt allow you to see or type or view more area to the right. its exactly the same.

the reason why we have the 800 X 600 limit is because back in those days we were on dialup and it was to keep load times down.

I understand pixels and resolution and aspect ratio. I also realize damn near every picture you post is too wide. I also don't understand why you can type that wide. Mine always go to a proper layout, as do others', unlike yours.

im addressing the problem with the forum rules. not my posting habits. lets not side dodge. at least you see the issue above. im using default layout, no custom changes.

i dont know why were argueing. its not like its ever going to change

It's not just monitor real estate that's an issue...it's file size as well. I agree that 800X600 is small, but I like that the file size is too.
