I used to have a Miata and a MR2 before that and I make fun of the Miata all the time.

I never was interested in RC cars. They really didn't seem to have much resemblance to an actual car or truck. They looked ok and were fast and probably reliable but man did they look like crap without the plastic body or if you looked closely.

I recently found out about crawlers and how some manufacturers were making decently scale trucks with 'gasp' solid axles and they were like real life 4x4 or KOH rigs in many ways.

It definitely piqued my interest. They may not be as reliable as a Slash or Armma but wow, are they loads better to look at and reasonable to spanner on.

If all you want to do is climb rocks, why don't you just build a 1\5th scale with huge tyres which will make a mockery of the little stuff?

These are toy trucks that get you tinkering and outside. Love what you love.
