It does seem that this genre of RC is a more mature group, mid 30's and up. I find it to be the same with most of the people that I fly rc planes with. I've had all kinds of RC cars, touring, short course, crap like that, but these scale trucks have got to be my favorite!

42 here. Like others, I've had RC stuff since it had a wire and you had to chase them around. Had some wireless toy store grade stuff in the 80's and 90's (Nikko, Tyco, etc), but didn't get anything hobby grade till I was 17. Traded some car audio stuff for a Tamiya Toyota Hilux Monster Racer. I fiddled with it for a bit, and lost interest as there were no hobby shops around, and online did not exist yet. A few years later, a local hobby shop opened and I got into nitro stuff, and raced for a few years. As my interest in that and the travelling to tracks started declining, I got into aircraft. Found scalers here in '05, still have my Bender framed TLT in the garage actually. The past couple years I haven't messed with RC much at all, I think I kind of got burnt out after around 20 years of it pretty steady. I sold off some stuff, kept some aircraft and a few ground rigs in case the urge strikes though.

I think you might be right. The young-ins I see are less and less interested in doing activities outside..

40.

If the younger ones are playing with R/C's.... it's probably RTR. They need instant gratification. If it breaks...throw in trash and buy a new one.

32. I was into RC's as a kid but nothing great. Mostly Tyco cars growing up. The original Phantom drone was what got my interest back into the RC world. I got a cheap ($80) drone to scratch the itch... a drone, 2 planes, 3 Traxxas trucks and 4 trail trucks later I'm fully infected. Girlfriends son wants nothing more than to sit inside all day watching videos about people playing video games on YouTube... twists my brain inside out trying to figure that one. He's gonna be 7 soon so there's some hope I feel. He totally digs the slash I bought him last year and he's getting the scaler/trail thing down but has full Ricky Bobby brain. I JUST WANNA GO FAST!!

Yeah, it does seem like technology has really changed how young people live.

A lot of truth in those statements.

I have a confession. My Deadbolt was my first scale/crawler type rig. If was the first RTR I ever bought. In my defense, I also bought my Wraith kit on the same day. I'll admit, I did it just for the instant gratification. After playing with it a few times, I realized that I should have just bought the kit. These days it's my favorite truck, but very few parts are stock. The day I bought it, my LHS also had a Dingo kit on sale for $222. I'm still kicking myself in the A$$ for not buying it.

Older maybe, but not more mature!

Kids get bored going slow. They just want to go fast.

I'll just say I'm old enough to remember my Cox .049 string line funny cars and about 10 years later when I got a USA-1 nitro monster truck kit.
RC Cars, planes and model railroads filled in the other years.
Crawlers are what grownups progress to .
Bob.

Well I believe so far I am the youngest. I just turned 21 this year. I started with a redcat everest 10 and then moved on to my pride and joy RC4WD beast 2 kit. Going fast is overrated. It's about control and building sweet rigs

My dad and I flew line control planes when I was a kid. That was something you had to practice for so you didn't get dizzy so easily. I crashed more than one due to dizziness.

53. Bought a Grasshopper the day I landed on Okinawa in '86 and was into RC the whole 3 years there...then I "grew up" and worked 7 days a week for the next 30 years. Now I can afford as many toys as I want and have time to play so I guess I'm a kid again. Yay!

Fiddy one,,,,, soon

I only owned crawlers or scalers myself, but i have controlled just about anything else thanks to my RC addicted friend that have it all and more than one model of each, and about every decade get rid of 100 Kg or so of old stuff that will not be used again.
