in a bit of some positive news, Kevin Smith is alive!
Kevin Smith goes vegetarian after heart attack - LA Times

could this be the thing that makes nerds (like me) think twice about their health? either way, I'm a fan (i went to his comic shop in redbank, NJ back in 2000) and glad he survived and is doing something to prevent it from happening again.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/27/o...amendment.html

Hearing this, on the heels of that stupid march, from a Justice who served on the highest court in the country & who was supposed to protect what he is now calling to repeal...the Constitution.

And we have that Parkland school kid, the one who thinks $130 will get you an AR, said, “when they give us that inch, that bump stock ban, we will take a mile” at their march over the weekend.

Now, these are just two people, albeit one very influential, but when gun lovers were mocked because they said they want our guns...well, looky here. Not so crazy after all.

yeah so that would lead to what... we just say "ok" and leave them on the door step for the "contraband collector truck" to come by and get them? COME AND TAKE IT.

more people are killed by cars every day. lets just ban all "dangerous objects".

seriously the answer is better screenings and restricting sales... what about the illegal deals out of the trunks on the street? if only we had a task force or something... like... oh, i dunno, the ATF?! if we can do major drug busts, pretty sure we should be able to handle illegal gun deals too.

and no, i haven't gone vegan lol

I thought all people in wackifornia were going vegan? jk. the gun ban thing will never happen. if it is tried anywhere, I honestly wish them luck. I might have to hide a few bodies before they stop knocking week after week.

Refocus resources from our long lost and fruitless war on drugs.

Yeah, we're way past that. There might be a ban on new sales of a particular model, but not an outright ban. It'd never happen.

How so? Amazon is in the same free market that all other US businesses are in, Amazon typically ships via FedEx, and Trump's latest tax cuts were of great benefit to the owner of Amazon.

He's not outstanding, he whiney and stupid.

They do ship UPS and USPS as well. However, it's not like the USPS is doing this for free. If Trump has an issue with what the USPS is getting for Amazon deliveries, then get the suits at the USPS to renegotiate the contract.

This is just Trump lashing out at Jeff Bezos (again) because he tends to favor Democratic/Liberal causes.

Also... If he is going to go down this road, he had better get on all the companies that go into communities and strong-arm the local governments for low/no taxes. *cough* General Electric *cough*

And if Amazon ever realizes it's own in house distribution, that would pretty much nail the coffin shut for USPS. While the USPS is constantly loosing money, the package division is actually growing. It is one of the only bright spots for the USPS.

Sounds like USPS needs to learn how to negotiate better. That's not Amazons fault.

They also deliver Priority Mail Express on Sunday.

Walmart is also considering the service.

More and more it sounds like it's USPS's decision...

None of you saw the concentration of power in the hands of Amazon at the expense of other retailers. Decentralized power is important if you don't want your lifeline in the hands of someone else.

The scale at which Amazon operates is enough to be concerned about. Its not a small corner shop with almost zero footprint.

Remember Walmart offloaded its employees on the US government by hovering them around low income group. Corporate strategies use a countries resources in their favor without paying for them.

The other part of this is that it has nothing to do with "mom 'n pop" stores and everything to do with property groups like Simon feeling the sting. I have zero sympathy for Simon & co, as they have been forcing unique "mom 'n pop" stores out of malls for years via ridiculous lease rates. The end goal was to pretty much homogenize their malls with known national brands. The funny part is, even the national brands are bailing because of the absurd lease rates. Couple that with the fact that you pretty much have to threaten Simon with legal action before they will perform any kind of maintenance and it's a big shocker that 1/4 to a 1/3 of their malls are empty.

That's all true, but such is the nature of the free market that 'muricans love to yell about when the gubbermint starts poking their nose in it.

Still, that gubbermint has been known to step in to break up monopolies to keep the market rolling.

Still again, Amazon isn't a manufacturer, they're a supplier.

Yup. There are tons of mom-n-pop stores on Amazon. The meaning of "store" has evolved over the last decade or so...
