Default Off road motorcycle with sidecar

I really kinda like this scooter, kind of like a modern WL and with optional 2 wheel drive.

You can get a 2WD motorcycle without the sidecar if you'd like. Sorry, I just checked and they call it AWD.

A 2 smoker!

I think this would be a fun street machine!

Or a build your own frame kit.

The Ural is pretty cool. The 2WD supermoto is about the most anti supermoto thing you could possibly do. Adding weight to one is pure sacrilege.

The 2WD dual sport/Ural both actually seem pretty nice for incredibly crap conditions, extra weight on the front plus the drive would actually pull you through mud/snow. Outside of the terrible conditions though I think a normal bike will do just as well.

Sidecar in dirt sounds absolutely scary.

2WD mountain bike was tried with a long cable, I can't think of the name of the thing. Like a weedwacker has that can only spin one way or it unravels. Like a flexible socket extension for a hand ratchet tool. Complete failure despite it being kind of a neat idea, maybe. The motorcycle version seems overly complicated and would seem to have come to fruition many years ago if it were worth a shit.

Looks super cool, but wondering about reliability. Great color too, desert tan.

I've been to a Ural dealer in town many years ago, it was inside a farming equipment store. Urals are based on WWII BMW motorcycles and built in a factory in Russia.

I've seen several around town. Cool old-school motorbikes!

I have a soft spot for the ural. I see a couple around town, and they just look like great fun!

I second this. I ride a crf450x super moto and the idea of adding another drive wheel and more weight is

Yes, they are! When I was a kid my dad would bring home VHS tapes with monster trucks, racing, and European motorsports. When I first saw side car racing and the nutjobs that they call "monkeys" (if memory serves me correctly) hanging off with their helmets inches from the ground I just couldn't believe it. Still to this day I think those guys are bat shit crazy!

A few years ago when I was riding LA-Barstow-Vegas (the dual sport event, not the original race) I came across a few sidehacks. The first was a BMW R1200GS (1wd) and they were struggling big time in the sand, so I stayed with them for a ways to assist in pushing them out when they got stuck. The second was a Ural Patrol 2wd. He wasn't necessarily having trouble on the 500 offroad mile ride, but I talked to the rider (driver?) at the end of the ride and he was telling me that the suspension was horrific, power was adequate at best, and the build quality on par with a Chinese mini bike, and he enjoyed the hell out of it!

I've also ridden with several Christini's (selectable 2wd) and while the riders all seemed happy with their choice (all were converted OEM KTM's and Honda's, not Christini's mostly Chinese built production bikes) it was pretty unanimous that they never truly felt the need to engage the front drive. I can certainly think of a few situations in big rocks or snotty mud where having the front tire pull would be great, but I'd rather just be on a smaller/ lighter bike in the rocks than wrestle the porker 2wd through boulders... coming from someone who rode a 330lb bike through the Rubicon. A GasGas powered Christini may not be on my top 10 must-have-bike list, but when I win Powerball, you can bet I'll buy one anyway!
