^^RUINED? Because it's now a supermoto? You've obviously never ridden one, and have lost your damn mind.

This is the first time I am seeking lathe chucks being seperated from the spindle. I hate people that are careless and have a laidback attitude when operating machines. |

I only watched the first couple of minutes because I am not going to watch people mutilate themselves. One would think, when a machine makes an unexpected noise or movement, one's first instinct would be to shut down and reexamine the setup, not push through it. |

When things go wrong with machines, they go wrong rapidly. There is hardly time for reaction. However the saying is true that you can't fix stupid.

In the first two examples, there were warning signs that something wasn't right and they were ignored by the operator. Okay... The forth one I've seen in person, and that is a case of an operator being a dumb-ass. In the printing ink industry we run three roll horizontal mills (Three Roll Mill). A guy was starting his shift and threw a batch on the machine, but didn't bother to take his sweatshirt off. The first two rolls grabbed him and planted his face right against the second roll. Thankfully they have a chain attached to a power cut off for this exact reason. At this same company (Wikoff Color), there is a story that the former owner and founder always used to wear bow ties because he got his necktie caught in a mill during a plant visit back in the 60s. I was running a threading operation and while reversing the chuck got loose from the spindle. Spindle locking lever was broken, so I held the motor pulley with my left hand (big mistake) and tightened chuck with my right hand. While retightning the chuck my left elbow touched the starter lever and pushed it in reverse. The chuck spun and took my right hand with the chuck key and smashed it on the opposite side of bed. Pinky was fractured with nail turning black. Usually I am a very cautious and carefull person when working with machines, but sometimes unwanted events happen because your concentration is somewhere else.

LOL, the idiot trying to hold back the mill with brute strength. That limp will remind him for life that you aren't that strong. I came to the conclusion years ago that most people are just incredibly dumb these days.

Coincidentally, I literally just walked in from the factory floor where one of the material handlers was standing under the raised three-stack pallet-laden forks of his fork truck while adjusting the existing stack of containers he was about to stack onto... I think I made him pee himself a little when I addressed him...there aren't usually any managers here after 4 on Friday. Funnier still, he's interviewed and been passed over for jobs in my department twice. Trust in my own hiring judgement is reinforced once more! |
