If the little mouthy guy was brain damaged, paralyzed or dead from that, a DA is certainly not going to go with "Well... He got what he deserved." Something similar happened out here. A goon like this punched a guy over an altercation inside a bar. The other guy cracked his skull when he hit the ground and died in his sleep. The goon is doing 10 years. But, I guess the other guy probably deserved it, right?

On the other hand... This could also be some "WWE" type action.

People that put themselves into stupid positions rarely get "what they deserve", they get what they get.

Like the dude a few years ago that died after a cop choked him out for resisting arrest. Did he deserve death? Absolutely not, but that's what he ended up with.
