Thumbs up C8 Mid Engine Corvette

finally the leather bags are off, and down to just camo wrap.

is that a roof/rear mount camera for visibility?

hard to keep those traditional long nose corvette lines with a mid engine, but i do see it in the rear fenders and the flat rear as well. very corvette. the stretch honey comb grill also carries over from the C7.
one odd thing is the exposed headlights, no clear lenses. ill be curious if that carries over to the production car. or just for the prototype test mule. i kind of like it. not many cars doing that.

quiet exhaust on this one, dual mode closed?

rumored it will only be available with a Tremec 8 speed dual clutch automatic

looking forward to this thing murdering Italians for 100k+ less.

C8R also spied looks AMAZING
rumored it may run a 6 cylinder turbo power like the Ford GT. would be a bummer to loose that on track thunder they are famous for on track. you can always pick it out of a pack blind from the exhaust note.

the C7R age has been showing the last year and a half. loosing all out pace compared to the rest of the field with much newer cars. yet still in championship hunt as we speak with consistency.

sound clip of C8.R

Wonder how many times it'll be compared to the Fiero, especially if there is any odd, engine fire related issues.........

I have a birthday coming up . . . maybe my wife will surprise me with one of the "old" ones . . . that would totally satisfy me . . . car wise . . .

Isn’t the corvette already a mid engine? I know the C6 crank pully is behind the front axle centerline. They are going to a mid-rear setup. Be intersting to see how many old farts loop these things on on/off ramps because they aren’t used to mid/rear car dynamics.

Ferrari's burn all the time and nobody is comparing them to Fieros.

The Corvette is also a legitimate super car whereas the Fiero was just a car.

The Corvette was never mid engine.

I hope it looks better without the camo. I think it looks like like an Acura NSX and Ferrari hybrid in some of the photos.

Regardless of the looks, I'm sure it will be a bad ass car. It sounds pretty good judging from the Nurburgring video I've seen.

It's a fine car from what I've read, but it's not a Corvette. Sorry. Big power, front engine, RWD, and a killer fiberglass body. That's a Corvette.

It would be like Ford calling the GT a Mustang. It just doesn't fit.

Maybe I'm just getting old.

while i agree with you, GM themselves have admited they took the C7 F/R package as far as it could go. they simply cannot improve it anymore.

Oh hey look an Acura nsx got date taped by a Lamborghini and it had a child named C8.

Cool car but its NOT a Corvette. I'm not even a Corvette fanboi but I respect the heritage enough to know the C8 is an abomination to the name sake. They could have easily used a different name and just tweaked the cosmetics of the C7 for decades to come and still been sold out to the satin jacket crowd.

Noise restrictions. The Ring is a ''normal'' road/highway.

when they tested the C7 Zr1 they simply put curved pipes on it to deflect the exhaust away from the DB sensors.

I do agree a Corvette should be front engines and RWD. I wish they kept the Corvette like this and then made the mid engine version an R or ZR1 or something like that.

To be fair, Zora Arkus-Duntov "the Father of the Corvette" has been trying to get it to be a mid engine car for a long time. I know he pushed for it with the 5th gen, but by that time he was no longer a GM employee.

It's probably got something to do with homologation rules for (GT) racing.

Mid engine cars have the engine behind the driver compartment, a.k.a. amidships. I love the new Stingray, as well as many generations of the platform, but I'm not feeling this one. I hope it looks better without the camo paint, and that they continue to offer a manual trans option. I don't care which is faster, I've stated before I love the mechanical interaction with the car, as do many others that buy cars that are ranked as true drivers cars. Even Porsche still recognizes this, and offers a GT2 variant with a third pedal. And it's always ranked in the top "drivers" cars in the world.

Wait didn't a dude take a zl1 camaro around the ring with a 6 speed stick and go faster than the C7? If that's correct then I guess the 'vette guys need to hand the platform off to those guys.

possibly. the ZL1 1LE, it has 200 more horsepower and real downforce, and proper track tires.
should be a shoe in against a Stingray.
however the C7 ZR1 got the camaros same treatment, and would be a shoe in against the camaro ZL1 1LE.

looked at some of my old pics, looks like the crank pulley is about ~6" ahead of axle center
