| Yellow Ledbetter
I'm sitting here working, iTunes playing. Pearl Jam's "Yellow Ledbetter" came on. I love the sound of the song but, much like much of the crap that comes out of Vedder's mouth...I can't understand a damn word of what he's saying. If he'd close his mouth when he sings he'd be intelligible. Decided to look up the lyrics and realized that it's kinda like listening to Rammstein. Much better when you have NO CLUE what they're saying. Unsealed On a porch a letter sat Then you said i wanna leave it again Once I saw her on a beach of weathered sand And on the sand I wanna leave it again... yeah On a weekend I wanna wish it all away yeah... And they called and I said that I want what I said And then I call out again And the reason oughta leave her calm I know I said i dont know whether Im the boxer or the bag Ah yeah ehh.... Can you see them Out on the porch But they dont wave I see them round the front way yeah And I know I dont want to stay... Make me cry Ooooh I see I dont know theres something else I wanna drum it all away Oh I said I dont, I dont know whether Im a boxer or the bag Ah yeah ehh.... Can you see them Out on the porch But they dont wave I see them round the front way yeah And I know I dont want to stay I dont wanna stay (2x) Dont Dont wanna Oh... yeah... oooh... |

I was completely content with that song without seeing the words....NOW I wont be able to hear it again without picturing dude singing this with a mouthfull of marbles. I think the chinese (she bangs)guy from american idol (william hung) (wait why do I know his name?????...... for shame) would sound just as good with the lyrics as Vedder's Novacaned tounge singing this.

Supposedly, Pearl Jam's current album is really good. Haven't heard it yet, but I'm a big fan of PJ. The best was watching Eddie Cheddar scribble all over his arms on SNL during a rather lousy rendition of "Jeremy" I think it was... The marbles fell outta that guys head and straight into his mouth... |

I was listening to one of my old school favorites this evening, and while doing it, I thought I would look up the lyrics and sing along (yea yea). I had manipulated the words in some crazy fashion so that it made a little bit of sense, but after reading the lyrics, it is just a random mess!!! The Band: The Weight I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead; I just need some place where I can lay my head. "Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?" He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said. (Chorus Take a load off Annie, take a load for free; Take a load off Annie, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me. I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide; When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side. I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on, let's go downtown." She said, "I gotta go, but m'friend can stick around." (Chorus) Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say It's just ol' Luke, and Luke's waitin' on the Judgement Day. "Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?" He said, "Do me a favor, son, woncha stay an' keep Anna Lee company?" (Chorus) Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog. He said, "I will fix your rack, if you'll take Jack, my dog." I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man." He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can." (Chorus) Catch a cannon ball now, t'take me down the line My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time. To get back to Miss Fanny, you know she's the only one. Who sent me here with her regards for everyone. Of course, this song was written at a time when drug excess was extreme and normal, and WOW it shows!!! There isn't a single bit of this that makes sense!!! |

Robb, Great song! Here's something I saw about Ledbetter: I would just like to point out that there aren't any "real" lyrics to yellow ledbetter. They were in the studio and mike started playing, and eddie just started singing random stuff. Thats why everytime they sing it its slightly different. There are no words. You can pretend there are if that makes you happy. |

| Everytime I hear that one, it reminds me of... Little Feat: Willin I been warped by the rain, driven by the snow I'm drunk and dirty don't ya know, and I'm still, willin' Out on the road late at night, Seen my pretty Alice in every head light Alice, Dallas Alice I've been from Tuscon to Tucumcari Tehachapi to Tonapah Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed And if you give me: weed, whites, and wine and you show me a sign I'll be willin', to be movin' I've been kicked by the wind, robbed by the sleet Had my head stoved in, but I'm still on my feet and I'm still... willin' Now I smuggled some smokes and folks from Mexico baked by the sun, every time I go to Mexico, and I'm still And I been from Tuscon to Tucumcari Tehachapi to Tonapah Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed And if you give me: weed, whites, and wine and you show me a sign I'll be willin', to be movin Once again, the 1970s drug references are quite prevalent Edit: Here's a link http://www.cybernetwest.ca/Little_Feat-Willin.mp3 Last edited by K_Willis; 06-13-2007 at 09:38 AM. |

Anyone who listens to ICP, Insane Clown Posse, will kinda notice the lyric plot for the Rammstein tune Heirate Mich is VERY similar to Cemetary Girl... Go have a look and see what I mean...;) But yea.. SOME Rammstein tunes are better left untranslated... They can make songs about things there that'd land anyone over here in jail for makin' songs about it... 60 n 70's tunes were kinda drugged up.. heh But listen to Motorheads Eat the Rich... "Hash browns and bacon strips. I love the way that you lick you lips!" or Alice Cooper School's Out... "We can't even think of a word that ryhmes!" Whatever happened to lyrics like these? They really have no meaning but they're there, none the less... These days you can't do a tune like the 80's 'cos you might upset someone and they'll get all PC on you... Like ZZ-Top's Legs... Like the old Beemans commericals.. Girls in bikini's, etc... Won't see that kinda commercial anymore 'cos it "exploits wimmin".. Oh.. Wait a minute.. Yes we DO see these still but now it's the wimmin goin' googly over a guy and hootin' and hollerin' and doing things to rub against him.. That's acceptable 'cos we men aren't a minority... JIA - what you saw about the lyrics being different every time is right, he never sings it exactly the same way twice. My favorite version is on the Live in New York DVD set. If you get a chance, check it out. It is sung from the POV of someone who's brother was killed while serving in the military. He says how he wonders if he will "ever see my brother alive again", and instead of the boxer-or-the-bag line, he says "I don't know whether he's coming home in a box or a bag". Kind of gives it a different spin. |
