Hey guys,

Great thread started about our jobs, really interesting stuff. Lots of comments in a short time frame.

Got me thinking....

We have so many people posting about their projects. Good, Bad, Ugly, Beautiful.. but all projects people are working on and have taken the time to post about.

The thing is,

I have noticed there doesn't seem to be much feed back and encouragement any more. Yeah we click the like button, but where have all the comments gone??

I am personally going to try and reply to everything I can. We all need encouragement, and I know when someone comments on my thread I get excited and want to post more.

if we stop commenting then people will stop posting. then RCC dies.

I agree that it’s more fun when people comment. Even an “I’m looking forward to seeing this build progress” is worth more to me than a “like” IMO.

I’ve posted a few videos, and nobody said a peep. I’m not afraid of a little constructive criticism, if they’re not actually as good as they are in my mind.

I’d reckon more people are here for information rather than attention. Facebook groups are good for the high five, back patting type of comments.

I’d also reckon the more you contribute to other’s threads the more you’ll see them contributing to yours.

That’s all I’m saying. Around here you’ll see more questions and informative posts rather than chummy posts. I like that we can “like” to show that appreciation without clogging up threads.

But I get what you’re saying and have nothing against it.

I agree.

On a forum, a build thread can chronicle years worth of history and evolution. On Facebook, that just does not happen.

I like Facebook groups as well, but I don’t like that they seem to be replacing forums in some cases.

Who is this "we"? Check my stats, I don't give likes. If I like what is posted I'll comment because that's what humans do, we engage and conversate with each other. Only mindless fawktards run around liking things and not replying.

It all started downhill around the time of the like button. Not to mention, people are lazier than ever these days. I comment when I can. The old days are gone.

Yep I've noticed the same thing, it's not like the old days there was lots of feedback. I'm guilty of it too, I need to start posting more comments, a lot of times when I''m at work on Tapatalk i'll just click like, I always say i'll go back and comment but I forget about it. I'm not on Bookface and will never be on Bookface, I like the forum format much better.

Most of my projects are robotic . . . one of these days I'll get back into something more scaler-relevant

We also have a moderator that’s deleting many simple encouraging comments. While I get that tech sections are for tech, it’s hard to rebuild a community when positive encouragement isnt good enough to keep.

The like button, and Facebook groups. Once groups took off a lot of forums started dying. This isn’t the only one in a death rattle. Of course Facebook has its own problems these days. I wouldn’t go there if it wasn’t the best game in town for a business.

As painful as that looks, that whole concept is really cool and I could see it being really helpful technology for thing implants and braces/plates and whatnot.
