Default China Thing! What will happen to our sport?

What do you all think this China deal is going to do to our sport? Is this just a scare tactic that will only last for a little while or will it have long lasting effects for us? GO...

I think you'll see the cost of things go up in price a bit, but not drastically

Why worry when you have a currency called dollar? Its kept high by other nations of the world.
A 25% price increase would hardly make a difference.

Most likely it will lead to a "price correction" by the RC industry as a whole. Lets say the average kit costs $300, with the tariffs in place, that cost goes up to $360. Once the tariffs are lifted, the "normal" price for that particular kit will likely go down slight, but will likely land at a higher price than before the tariffs where enacted, most likely around the $340 mark and stay that way.

I'm just happy I'm no longer working the retail side of the service industry, especially in a hobby shop like I had been until 3 years ago. I can just hear the whining about the prices of airplane bits and model car prices already......

A lot of people point to you guys when they talk about socialism "working", but a 55% personal income tax rate is just the beginning. You guys also pay a premium for all of your goods and services.

The US still has the smarts to make things here in the US. Right now all but 20% of the Vanquish VS4-10 is made here. 100% of my 2, 2019 Ovalwerks model pan cars are made here and I still have Team Associated Vehicles from the 90's made here. If they had been made in China they would be long dead. So it is possible to have quality RC products made in other countries besides China. May cost a bit more, but what is quality worth.

That's why the VS4-10 is $900 and the 80s RC10s were $350 for a kit. That translates into roughly $750 now.

I wouldn't worry too much about this tariff. It will be short lived. China has way more to lose from this than us. China already charges massive tariffs on goods that they import from the US, and this new tariff on their goods is just to force them to ease up on those tariffs. Since they send us 5x as much stuff as we send them, and because we're their biggest customer, they will have no choice but to cave.

That said, even if they don't, it won't take long for US companies to move large scale production to Taiwan, Indonesia or some other China-alternate.
