When did gender reveal parties become a thing?



When family/friends are expecting, it is nice to know what the gender is so you can buy the new linoleum lizard the appropriate stuff. But, these parties they have where they burst colored balloons or other dipshit stuff like that just seems to be a bit over the top and self-serving.

Gender reveal parties are the stupidest thing in the world. Every last one of them is lame, no exceptions.

I support this fact by being someone with 2 kids born in the midst of the gender reveal party craze.

A buddy of mine had a gender reveal party a few weeks ago. Stupidest thing I've ever heard of. No, I did NOT go to the party.

Fact. Also as someone with 2 kids born in this unnecessary craze. Also fact, we did a party for the first child and it didn't work out as "cool" so the second child got a pass thankfully.




Big fat wrong assumption there. The male species is a required participant and usually the center of said reveals.

My kids are 9 and 6 and this crap didn't exist then. If they did, I would have had no part in them. The genders of my children was no mystery to me because I was there at the sonogram.

I’m from an area that doesn’t have them...or, I’ve never been invited to one. Also I think the party is for the members of the family that don’t know the gender...the dog, or the cat, to hell with in-laws.

Personally I know when one of the bros has a boy cause they usually bring out their whisky & I get a cigar, and if they have a girl then its a chocolate cigar.

Some of them seem to go kinda crazy, whem my Sister and her Husband let us know, his Sister was back in town and went to dinner with them, both Grandmas (who had birthdays th at weekend!), Dad (his Dad didn't make it) and his Sister. After we ate, they showed us this.

Th en again, when they got married last October, it was at the courthouse and then the reception was in his parents garage that night. Dad spent more to rent a wheelchair minican for Mom that the whole whole wedding cost:ror:

For our first one, we didn't want to know the gender. Wanted it to be a surprise - totally old school. Until the nurse blurted out "You're little girl is dong fine" ...

Would have much rather have had a party. At least their would be beer involved.

We humans have created a lot of stupid things, but this is at the top. It’s completely moronic to me, especially the elaborate crap. I loved that video, serves him right his car blowing up. Just let people what you’re having, like normal people.

Fortunately none of my friends have had one of these, otherwise I wouldn’t go. They’re not that dumb.

It's a byproduct of the social media look at me phenomenon. Just like how stupid homecoming, prom, birthday parties, vacations, weddings, marriage proposals, etc have gotten. People are literally going into major debt for these celebrations, which I will never understand.

Honestly would bet these were drummed up by baby product companies to sell even more junk, I'm pretty sure they didn't exist before 2012 and they aren't a thing outside of the US.

I watch How Rediculous on YT n they done a gender reveal with an atlas ball. It was half blue n half pink. They dropped it on a bunch of spray cans from 45m for the reveal.

Same with those idiots who are injuring themselves or dying all for a stupid selfie. Like the story recently from Siberia, I think it is, about a cool turquoise color pond is luring these social media morons there....but the pond is that color because it’s a chemical dump site. :roll:
