Who Else Is Paying Sales Tax

I just placed a small order from AMain and was charged NY Sales Tax. Guessing it went to effect Nov 1st. Anyone else get hit with it in their state? But after I placed the order I checked other sellers, for one RPP is not taxing NY orders so far. I have ordered from them also but I guess I will be more now if they have what I need.

It's not a "California" thing. With brick & mortar retail sales constantly going down, and internet sales constantly increasing, started have realized there been losing a huge amount of money for their annual state budgets. As such, many states have implemented laws requiring internet retailers to collect state sales tax, and turn it over to those states. Other states are already in the process of implementing the same, or similar, laws.

I'd guess, by 2025, all US states with have done the same. If you're in one of the states not currently collecting sales tax on internet purchases, I can (virtually) guarantee you'll be paying it soon enough. As times change, so do the laws.

Vermont has been forcing the larger retailers to collect the 6% for almost a year now. Super lame.

:lmao: porking. Haven't heard that euphemism in 40 years.

I don't get to pay any sales tax because I am out of the country, I just pay an extra 30% because my countries currency has little value in wealthy countries.:lmao:

You must have just missed where a sales tax was placed on businesses by Brown Stain and will
surely be passed on to shoppers.

I noticed that I've been getting charged sales tax on every purchase made on ebay over the last several months. It used to only get charged on purchases from a business that had an address in this state, but for some reason, even purchases direct from China are able to charge me sales tax now... who's actually collecting that?

Hows that state income tax treating you? :flipoff:

I'm close enough to OR I can go make bigger purchases there and come back to WA with it.

ebay sales tax began on oct 1. Every purchase, no matter the vendor will require you to pay sales tax now.

There might be a few states not included, but California is definitely one of the states that has to pay sales tax on any eBay purchase.

Yeah, I'd rather pump my own gas, thank you. "thumbsup"
One of the best fringe benefits of my truck, its gas tank if big enough so that I don't have to stop for gas when driving through Oregon.

And, I can't think of one good reason to live in Oregon, to say nothing about finding "many good reasons".

Back to the taxes...
Seems like a lot of laws went on the books this last year for tax collection, it is hard to find a site that doesn't charge tax now. It is annoying, but I can see why they do it.

OR passed a deal so you can now pump your own gas last summer.

You can thank Amazon, Ebay and New Egg for the law, theyve been collecting sales tax for over a year.

Its up to your Home state to decide if they want to enforce the law but we have to charge the tax.

Sadly, there are caveats based on population and time of day. A good portion of the state still has the pump people...

Not running around with a pocket full of pennys! In Oakridge, 1 1/2 hours from one of the greatest coastlines ever, 45 min to the mountains. Right in the middle of some of the best mountain biking trails in the country! In the middle of some of the best college sports teams in the NCAA, would you like me to keep going? My favorite crawling spot is 5 min from my door step! "thumbsup";-)

Just purchased some links from a small vendor in Virginia. Last month when I purchased from them no sales tax and no shipping cost. I understand that the price of doing business is going up, but I see very little representation for my taxation, especially from another state.

Almost sound link you're also in the SF Bay Area...except, for us, mountains are as little as 15 minutes away, plus, not only do we have some of the best mountains biking trails in the country, but this is also where mountain biking was invented. Oh, yea, almost forgot... Tahoe & Yosemite are both only approx 4hrs away, with Big Sur & Mendocino both about half that.
