Default Slash 2wd gearing questions

Hey guys, took a slash out to the beach. 50degree weather, windy as crap and felt like standing in a sandblaster pelting your legs. So worth all the discomfort, though until the magic smoke released from my sidewinder V1. Upon further examination the 4600kv castle motor seized and may have caused the esc to catch fire when i tried to give it throttle. It was pretty far away and ithought lvc kicked in.

So vehicle specs before:
Castle sidewinder/4600combo
14pinion 56 spur
3s
Slash with mohawks up front and hpi sand slingers out back
So the old motor/esc=fried

I was thinking of getting one of the cheap 3660 motors in the 3100 kv flavor and a HW 60A escs.
What type of gearing should i shoot for as i do not want a repeat of my last outing?
New combo will go into a streched slash 16.5 wb with New Bright raptor hardbody, stillrunning 2-3s if you have a better kv suggestion that would also be appreciated.

I was running a no-name 3100kv 3665 (rated somewhere around 1600w) on 3s/4s in my 2wd Slash with 14/54 and it was plenty fast. My go-to non-crawler ESC of choice is the 120a HW WP-SC8, it never gets hot, it's only about $55, and can run up to 4s.My problem was that it had TOO MUCH power and would stand up on demand from pretty much any speed, and it was breaking HR spools, standard open diff outputs, and Tekno axles far too often. I switched the 3665 out for a 3650 sized 3100kv (same speed, but rated at about 800-1000w) and I've been MUCH happier with the car. At our last local rc sand drag day, I ran 3) 7400mah 3s, 2) 8000mah 3s, and 2 or 3 5500mah 4s batteries through that setup without a single part failure... that's a new record for any of my cars, so I'm not changing a thing.

So if i ran max of 3s would the trans and related hardware still hold up?
I have mip cvds, will also have RPM trans case soon.

It's hard to say. Most 3660's seem to be rated around 1200w, so right between my 2 motors, I'd run it. Assuming your MIP's are the splined type, not the dogbone/cv type, they'll be a non issue regardless of your power system. After that, my diff outputs were the next weak link, even on 3s. The HR spool wasn't any more reliable for me than the open diff outputs, but it did contribute to more of my broken axleshafts so I switched back to an open diff after my 2nd spool broke. I do not notice any loss of performance in the sand with the open diff, but it sure corners better on the track with an open diff! The rest of the guts in the trans have held up fine.

I always ran the 3500 Velinon on a castle SW3on 3s .
Really don’t remember all the gears I ran, but on ProLine Primes on asphalt it was a terror! , prone to snapping rear shafts and shredding trans gears until I went all Proline and sold that beast

Not a fan of the traxxas running gear, had lots of issues with their stuff while deployed in dusty areas of the world
