1985 toyota 4x4

i figured you all might know a little better than i do, i found a toyota for sale for 800$, its 4wd, body is straight, very minimal rust(almost none), might have a small lift on it. i called the owner and he said it needs a head gasket. is it worth 800$ or how much is it worth in this condition?

It is probly worth it just because it is the last year they had the straight axle in the front. Just my opinion.

TwistedCreations 03-06-2007 09:11 AM

yes it is worth it

i just bought an 84 toy and it is awesome! i got the tranny replaced so thats why i needed the bruiser gone. its an awesome truck though! its definately worth it

Go for it!

only thing that makes me nervous about buying a truck with a blown head gasket is, if they continued to drive it while it was blown... that would have caused it to over heat and if it over heats bad enough could fracture the cyclinder head or block. Or if the coolent ends up in the oil pan, thatll wash the bearings of the oil and could cause problems. If it blew the head gasket and they parked it, then you should be ok...eitherway its a solid axle toyota with a descent body, still worth the money

i wouldn't even think twice........go and buy it! if it was down here in hawaii, 20r motors are so easy to find and to rebuild a 20r is so easy and cheap to do. i would be on it in a heartbeat. awesome find, if you do get it have fun with it"thumbsup".

TwistedCreations 03-06-2007 09:56 AM

but it has a 22r in it... maybe get lucky and even have the EFI "thumbsup"

Are you going to use it as daily transportation or use it as an off road toy?

Is it a truck or 4runner? Post a picture up so we can see it, including the F&R suspension, interior, engine and body.

IMO.

An engine rebuild is obviously in the future and complete running 22r engines can be found for 500 bucks all day long if you can put it in yourself. If you are mecanically strong it could be a good buy.

If it will be a rock crawler/trail runner than it is a good start with the solid front axle. I would not give him anymore than 500.00 including a free tow for a parts truck, which is what this is.

You could easily spend $2000.00 to get that vehicle up and running including labor. So you may want to think about buying one that has a good engine and other upgrades for $2000.00.

Check out www.pirate4x4.com for alot of good info. and post your pics there also. They always have good vehicle deals"thumbsup"

Mine started as a $1000.00 88' 4runner when the last owner bought it after he put $6000.00 into it I bought it and now I have over $9000.00 in it and counting:roll:

Good Luck;-)

buy it and i'll trade you my lifted running 86 4x4 yota....

so i went down to look at it and it is in worse shape than i though, when i got under the truck to check it out the frame was pretty rotted out and has already been patched in a few places, the engine wouldnt start. im sure the rings and bearings are washed out, the oil was almost white from all the coolant in there. the drivetrain needed all new u-joints. im sure there was more little stuff wrong with it but i cant remember. i ended up not buying it. i dont have the time to rebuild this truck

What part of Kentucky are you from? I'm about 30 minutes south of the Tennesse/Kentucky line about 1 hour north of Knoxville. A buddy of mine deals in allot of Toyota stuff and is always selling old Toyota's. Some are good clean trucks and some are good for building beaters out of. If your close to the area and are looking,he might have something right now.

its part out value is at least twice what you were going to pay for it if you feel like parting it out
