Default Question for your RC18 guys RE: Servo Saver >>

Bought one this weekend and I'm loving it. Yesterday, while bashing around the garage I hit something fairly hard and lost steering. Front wheels move freely now. It was too late to break it down by the time I got home last night. I'm guessing/hoping, I just lost the servo saver. Is this a part that's easily broken?

Usually most ppl strip the servo... check to see if when you move the steering that the servo head isnt freely moving if it is you stripped gears if not its further downstream

DieselFuel and I just got the 18B's this weekend as well. I have had 18T's in the past and I forgot how much fun they are.

Check and see if it just poped off the little cross link steering arm.

Yep, servo head moves freely. So, if I stripped gears, is that just the saver or is the servo itself toast? These little guys are hard to work on! I'll take a 1/10 any day over these little tiny pieces.

Waiting patiently for the LHS to open up at 10 (gotta love working from a home office)

Try the POS Losi Micro. You need sunglass screwdriver for it.

At least with the 18 you can use a #1 phillips.

sometimes the servo saver jams. get a stock blue spring and cut 1 1/2 coils off the bottom of it and place it on the servo saver. It will give you tighter steering but dont hit anything hard at high speeds or your servo will be toast.

You don't need steering.

If the steering links are connected and you get no movement it's new servo time.

I run this

After I stripped my stock servo, I replaced it w/ an Airtronics servo and this metal servo saver.

Just a quick followup. I got lucky and it turns out the servo was fine, it was jus the saver spring thingy which had bent enough to no longer stay on the servo. I'd already bouhgt a new replacement hitec servo (HS-65 HB) and the associated servo saver for hitec products.

The new servo was only $25 so I'll hold onto it for now as I'm sure the stock servo will eventually go south on me.

Still really loving these little 18th scale rockets. Even in stock form, it's a blast for basement running. On the real smooth floor, it drifts & spins out like a champ.

Next up is some 1/10th scale touring car wheels/tires. The wheel adapters are made by DP and are only $6.

Any maybe some of these wheels & tires (Losi Street Meats)!!

I guess foams are great for on-roadasphault/bashing but I just like to look of real rubber and I want to be able to spin out on command. Foams would probably give me TOO MUCH traction

Anybody put a car body on the RC18 truck chassis? I like the look of the RC18R but those bodies will make the tires stick out too much for a scale look. I read somewhere that maybe a 1/12 scale body would look right?

I think a 1/12th body will be to big still. I'd personally recommend getting some aluminum hexes. Here is a little video of my truck running 1/10th wheels.

Thanks Nick. I came across some posts of yours at one18th.com. Loved that video, it's amazing how it jumps when you hit the throttle like that!! Great stuff. Definitely going to go with 1/10 wheels/tires after seeing your clip. Those little kids must have been in awe.

That parking lot is my RC testing grounds haha It's to small for the 18T though. I can only get it up to about 3/4 throttle and even at that there isn't much traction. I need to get foams because the touring car wheels i'm running actually balloon.

I just love the 'look' of real rubber vs. foams. Yeah, you sure run out of room pretty quickly with that BL setup don't you?

Some bigger wheels and tires and you could run it upside down.
