They have been doing it for a while. Open up this months issue of Crawl and flip to the article on that FJ Buggy and take a look at his tranny skid. I think he used some thick UHMWPE.

1:1's have been using delrin skid plates since before rccrawling was ever really around, at least back in the early 2000-2002.

they have the military grade self lubricating plastic so that as you scratch it, it releases a slick innard within the molecular structure of the plastic. helps you get over the rocks.

That's cool stuff right there.

This was the first time I have seen it on a 1:1. I don't fallow rockcrawling much so I'm a little slow.

Once they go electric, that's when you'll know RC has had an impact

yeah... like when they have massive brushless motors that you have to wear lead aprons on your body whenever you are around them

I know somebody who has been working on an electric 1:1 crawler for about a year now he should finish it up when he gets back from the navy.

I vaguely remember seeing a pic of a monster electric motor hooked to an atlas. Guessing it didn't get to far, unless it's the same thing mentioned above. I think the rules prohibit electric, but never read into them very clearly. I know things like 4 individual hydro motors at each wheel wasn't allowed.
