Default How thick is yer wood? Work-bench wood!

I am making the plans to build a work bench in my garage. I was wondering what thickness and type of wood I should use for the top, and hope you all could help me out. It will be only about 4'X8'.

3/4" MDF.

Super cheap, strong, burn resistant (dense) easily replacable.

3/4" plywood, 2x4 framing with 4x4 legs and bolted to teh studs in the garage. BTW I orginally made mine to be 4X8 but it was to freak'n big to use all of it. the back of it would just fill up with crap. So I cut it in half and now I have a 2' x 16' which is way better. one side to work on and the other side to put junk on. most of the time 2' wide is just fine but at times I wish it was 6" wider. a buddy of mine just made his at 3 feet wide but I think thats just a bit too much. so I would recommend 30" wide.

Mine is Inch and a half thick hard yellow pine.
Nalled on 2X4 that are built to the frame of the garage.
Its about 30inches deep. Witch works out well plenty of room to work on but not to big.
Is youre going to be stationary or is it going to be on wheel? If its on wheels the I would make it 4ft by 8ft. That way its stabel and you can work all the way around it.
If its stationary I would make it no longer then 30 inches.

im sure he meant 30" LONG. Veiwing it fron the front.

my work bench is made from a old closit door reinforced with 2x4s. sits just high enouph for my roll around to fit right underneath. it has 2 small cabinets on both ends and a vice mounted to a 1/4" aluminum plate on one corner.

Talking Thanks

Thanks guys for your input. It will be nice having a bench to work on, my wife is tired of my crawler parts and tools on the dinner table. Women!
