Default Baja 500

Not sure if any of you knew or not, but the Baja 500 is currently running.

RCCrawler helped sponsor Cara Silverthorn, co-driver of the 1705 Jeepspeed.

You can track them live here.

Click on class 17, then Mike Shaffer is the driver on record. It looks like they are currently stuck in a huge traffic jam at mile marker 212.

You can also listen to the race live via weathermans broadcast here.

You can also track team 561, Desertbull in his 5/1600 car here.
For some reason this tracking does not work in firefox, only IE
http://iridium.ionearth.com/MapperVe...r.aspx?tour=65

Here is a picture of them as they left the starting line this morning.

It also appears that one of the Dakar VW touareg's has crossed the finishline, beating all the class 1's

So mad, the wife got back today from a mexico cruise with her mom....she said when they were in ensenada(sp?) they were starting the races, she saw all kinds of buggies/trucks/bikes./etc...I wish I was there to see this..

On a side note, I rented "Dust to Glory" off of netflix recently and it was a great movie, kind of a documentary on the baja 1000....if you have a chance watch it ..

I like the old ziptie the strap to the front bumper move. He did say the were going to use the tank to pull it through some of the realy bad silt beds. I guess he wasn't kidding?

Pete finished a while ago.

Tim has a little room, because they were going for adjusted time, but with about 300 miles to go I think he'll be paying up.

Is this Tim that I met in Moab back in April? That looks fun.

That would be him.

Not sure what happened to them lastnight, but they got to about RM220-230 and stopped. One of the chase trucks then ran about 20 miles on the course backwards and got them going again. The race car took back off ahead of the truck, but now the race car and both chase trucks are sitting at about RM245.

They are still about 40-50 miles from check 3, which closed quite a while ago, so they might be calling it quits.

I also know a team that is racing down there right now. They are called Speed Technologies. I help out in their shop and go Pre-Running with them. Let me tell you... there is nothing in this world like going 90+ miles off-road over jumps and whoops in a V8 Class 1. I think they are racing 2 Class ones and a Class 10 this weekend.
