When I got my permit (16 years ago), my road test consisted of: -drive out of parking lot -drive about 1/4 mile on 45mph busy road (in right lane) -turn right into residential area, drive about 1/2 mile through area (making right turns) -turn right onto 45mph busy road, and continue about 1/8 mile back to parking lot (in right lane, and taking a right into the parking lot) I never had to parallel park, merge into traffic, get on an interstate, etc...............heck, I never made a left turn or stopped at a light. The whole thing took about 5 minutes, just enough time for the instructor to fill out the paperwork................which they did while I was driving (ie, not paying attention to my driving). The whole process was a joke! Even worse was that I took my driver's ed class through my high school.................in summer school. Summer school driver's ed is a "rushed" class, and I got maybe 10 minutes of driving time with an instructor. It would have been pretty easy for me to have been COMPLETELY UNPREPARED to actually drive safely on the roads and still have gotten a license. Last edited by Robb; 06-10-2007 at 12:39 PM. |

Mine included everything from parking, turn-abouts, merging onto the highway, safe/attentive driving, they even checked the car out to make sure it passed all laws and regulations. Still aced mine. | |
