Thumbs up 1:1 landcruiser experts please

I am looking at getting my wife a landcruiser, she likes the 1992-1997 body style and it fits in our budget. What are the pro's and con's of those years and what do I need to look out for?

There was a guy on here from NM that was thinking of selling his, I liked it alot but never heard back from him, maybe he will see this post.

Any help would be great guys, thank you.

Just pop a Cruiser decal on a Liberty. She won't know the difference and you can save a few bucks

I was lookin into picking one up myself.. i got on a couple of forums.. and the only deal is for those years is to ask if the head gasket has been replaced.. there is a small coolant hose behind the motor that goes bad and causes the motor to overheat...
Its been a while and I could be wrong so double check into this..

sold my wrx and picked up an 06 runner instead.

Thats about it, I help out at a Toyota shop and Cruisers are probably the least worked on vehicle. Oil, filters, Gas, Brakes, wiper blades, tires and Armour All, thats about it.

Just did a radiator on a 93, 245k miles, first time it had ever been worked on besides maintenance, one owner.

I have a 84 and a 90, great rigs. I have that Jeep thing too. Owned 2 Rovers, I will never go that route again.

I so wish I still had my 83 FJ60.:-( This site; http://www.tlc4x4.com/ch.htm
has a ton of info and history on the various models.

http://www.tlc4x4.com/fj80.htm

http://www.tlc4x4.com/fzj80.htm

Those are bringing a mint around these parts, especially in th PRB (Peoples Republic of Boulder)

I saw an OD-Camo one of these http://www.tlc4x4.com/fj45.htm in Brighton a few weeks back....

Maybe I'll hit the lotto

Ben....

Look for one with diff locks and a full floating rear. Leather is going to be cracked and ripped by now, I have a guy that does full leather kits for Cruisers They are all basicly the same other than the diff locks and full floater rears.

If you need anything, please call. We have some Cruiser head junkies that I deal with daily. They do full rebuilds of 40, 55 & 60 Series Cruisers all the time. They all have an 80 Series that they drive or update with all sorts of goodies.

Most 80 Series Cruisers that you'll find will have about 200K on them as that is about the time they start to need more than just an oil change. They are pigs when comes to fuel. That's mostly why I didn't go with the 80 Series a few months back...but my wife loves them even though I force her to drive the ZJ

PS-- You can fit 35's with very little to zero lift if you remove the cladding over the fenders

Great rigs......super reliable.....near bullet-proof.

Some parts can be crazy expensive like some of the goofy water and oil/tranny lines. But like all Toyota quality, the parts last a long time.

They flex great right out of the box and wheel well due to the flex and their weight (they are heavy). As mentioned, consider the electric locker versions if you might want to wheel it much.

Can't recall the year they went to the better motor but I understand power and mileage are much better with it.

Had a '96 for a couple of years. It had the full loker package, floater rear end, all the bells and whistles. Had 126,000 miles on it when I bought her. Put almost 100,000 miles on her myself. Only thing I had to fix was the lockers in the front and rear end.
Other than that no problems at all. And I was pretty hard on it. ONly downfall that I had which ultimitely made me sell was the gas mileage. With 305/70r16 (33") on I could only get 10-11 miles per gallon.
Hope this helps.

Yep, I think they all get 10 mpg, mine did with 215's and it does with 33's, I wonder how it likes these 35's I got?

Don't all the newer ones come with the full floater?
