Updates: Colquitt came over and graciously loaned me his table saw. We cut up the folding table and mounted up some peg board. I didn't get a chance to take pics since it started raining. Looks like it is going to rain again now. If I can get pics tonight, I will.

I also scored me a refurbed yellow top Optima from a local battery place for $20 with a 3 month warranty. I figure for that price, it is worth a try. I'm looking forward to getting my inverter in and trying it out later this week.

Thanks man. I really liked your idea with the alternator, but running across that generator auction was just too good to pass up.

Yeah, now I'm just trying to figure out the best way to get this mess all hooked up once it gets to me.

Like what the best way of charging those batteries will be. Just plug the generator into the batteries full time and crank on the generator when the batteries get low? Obviously that Optima was cheap now, but I'm sure I won't be so lucky when it comes time to replace it, so I should treat it as well as I can for as long as I can.

I saw JIA had that converter, which is really cool. I'm just not sure I need a $200+ charger right now.

Nope, no pics, bad weather last night.

I do have some updates though. My inverter came in, so now I can play with that. I originally thought I could find a cheapo converter/charger here in town, but I didn't find any that I liked or that weren't $250+. I figured if I'm going to spend that much money, spend it on a really good charger. Therefore I ordered one of those Xantrecs like JIA has along with the panel. That seems like a great system and a great way to monitor those batteries, plus I can plug it into house power to plug it in when I need to.

I get home a little late tonight, but the skies look clear so I should be able to get some pics.

Cool, because I really want to see what you've done with it.

Not much more progress, here are a couple quick pics I just took. Sorry for the crappy pictures, I had my camera in the wrong settings and didn't notice until after I locked it all up.

Still messy

You can see my little fold away table here.

Inverter and battery. It works well. I had a lamp plugged in for quite a while last night and no problems at all.

Have a nice shot of the clouds this morning

Looks good cloak. I like how you put up the little peices of wood on the shelves to prevent things from falling.

Update

I now have lights hooked up (complete with a switch). I bought 3 12v battery operated switches and hooked in to their 12v converter switch. I will probably hook in that little light on the right. It is normally hooked in to the rail coming off the trailer connection.

From Wheelchair's thread. I figure I should copy/paste my update.

Way more power than I actually need to charge the one battery. I guess I'm going to have to find me a couple big AH 6v batteries now.

I should be able to get this mounted and installed tonight. If so, I'll post up pics of all these goodies. I better install an alarm with all these gizmos around these guys at nat's.

Nice!!

Thats a lot of juice....

Don't cook your optima!

Actually the optima would probably survive it better then a lead acid.

I can see you rollin up to the nats, trailer tires almost hitting the wheelwells from all the batterys, bumppin "They see me rollin"

You should have the ultimate setup man! Nice Work! SCORE on the 40amp!

I was talking to my dad about it telling him everything (that I blame you guys around here for getting me interested in) in the trailer. He was telling me "holy crap, what are you going to do, run a damn city out of that trailer?

I asked him why, he's like "do you remember in our old 25' trailer all the crap you kids used to run? Between the tv, radios, atari, fans and all the other crap you used to have in there? that was all run off far less available power than you're going to have in your 'utility' trailer."

I told him "yeah, but dad... look who you're talking about. I have so much electronic crap I run everywhere I go. How do you figure I DON'T need all this juice."

Plus I have 2 boys that took after me. I'll need it to keep their DSes and whatever other game systems they take with them charged up.

About that 40amp. I was thinking. I know the plug that I'll be using inside the house has a 25amp breaker and the generator has a 16 amp output, those should be my bottlenecks when using this charger, right? The 40amp can't come out of thin air, unless there is some sort of built in repeater or something.

You have to remember as well...

You are stepping 120voltAC down to around 14 volt DC with that charger.

Ever seen the Chargers in a Auto Repair Shop?
225 Amp boost
250 Amp Engine crank

All from a 15 amp 120v socket.

You will be just fine running the charger off the generator!

My RV has a 40 amp 12v supply as well! I can BBQ batteries if I am not careful!

DJ: I switched servers a few days ago, your dns should have caught up by now.

BTW, unless you have any other suggestions for stuff to do to the trailer, I think I'm just about done with your saw. I can meet up with you this weekend and give it back.
