| Marine battery charging?
I recently picked up a blue top Optima battery for my boat. Iwas told to charge the thing at 2A. I don't have a car battery charger that goes less than 10A. I do have a nice RC charger that'll do 2A though. Would using that charger for my boat bettery be a bad idea? If it'd be fine, what kind of settings would I use for #/cells, battery MaH, etc; or would I just stick the charger on there and leave it for a while...

Does your 1:1 charger have a maintainer setting? If it does use that for the first charge and then just use the 10 amp charge after that.

Not all RC chargers can charge lead acid batteries. The only ones I can think of is the upper models of the MRC Super Brain line. |

It's got one switch with three settings. 1) off 2) 10A charge, 2A trickle 3) 6V I cooked the first brand new Optima using the 10A/2A setting. Literally melted the top of the battery; friggin mess. Warrantied the battery out, got a new, bigger battery. Now that ones dead and I need to charge it. It's sounding so far like I need to buy a marine battery charger. I didn't know RC battery chargers couldn't charge a regular battery. | |
