| Damn, people may give you a lot of s*** but you do know your big rig engines. The series 60 IS currently the best motor out there, although I still like the old cummins big cam 400s. For the small stuff, cummins, but not in a dodge. |

I've owned several Dodges with the Cummins in them. All had problems. The last one is on it's second engine, 3rd head, 3rd turbo, 4th transmission, 2nd AC Compressor... That's the short list. The new Ford Super Dutys with the 6.4 Diesel and automatic trans are best. I've owned 2 Fords with no problems

If you would have asked this question a year ago... the answer would have been cummins, straight up, no arguments from anyone... But, that was the old 5.9 litre power plant that's been around for years... The new 6.7 litre cummins is having a ton of problems with the new fuel pumps... a google search or two would do you better than asking on an RC forum If you go with a 2006 or older with the 5.9 you are golden... Stay away from the new 6.7 till they get all the problems sorted tho. The new 6.4 litre ford is a hunk of junk, all kinds of problems with it, same with the 6.0... Ford hasn't had a good diesel since the 7.3 back in 02 if you are looking at a powerstroke, watch this first http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dKLKm5i2ic The Duramax on the other hand has had very few issues. Slightly higher maintenance costs than the other diesels due to the complicated design, but the engine itself is solid. The problem here is the IFS front ends of the GMs just aren't up to any offroad use... If all you are using it for is towing on the highway, Duramax all the way... For offroad use 2006 or older Dodge... Or if you're on a budget (and what I'm actually looking for for myself right now, a 2002 Ford Superduty with the 7.3) |

If you are talking pickups then the dodge and Cummins are hard to beat for power and durability. I ran a Hotshot car hauling business for awhile and we tried them all and none of them held up like the cummins in the didge chassis. Heck we jumped up to a small Freightliner with a 5.9 cummins in it and I ran that all over the country with no problems at all pulling a 53 ft wedge trailer. As for big rig motors. Hard to beat the Cat or the N14 cummins. Detroits are ok but I would go with an N14 over a 60 detroit anyday. Cat would be the top of my list for a big rig. |

as much as i hate replying to your threads, diesel engines are my life. in my opinion cummins' 5.9L and the 7.3L powerstroke are the best engines made. if you could get a ford truck with a cummins motor and allison transmission, you'd have the ultimate truck. |

I have both the Powersstroke and the Duramax, they both run fine for what I use them for. It all depends on what you use it for.
