| ATTN: Veterans and currently enlisted. I have a question.
I spent some time in in the Persian Gulf right when Operation Enduring Freedom was kicking off. Today I got a letter from the IRS asking for the time frame that I was in the combat zone. It has been five or six years. I don't remember when I was there or how long. lol When I was deployed I would not pay attention to the date, it was too depressing. :-( All I would know if it was day or night time. How would I find out these dates? I don't think it would be on my dd214 would it? Thanks Ben |

I dont think it's on the DD form. I'd suggest calling your personell flight at your last "base". How long have you been out?

Contact your personnel flight. It should be on your DD form 214. |

Yes, it should be on the DD214 form.

I was Honorably discharged July 15, 2003. I was promoted to e5 May of that year too. I am going to have to unearth my paperwork. I just realized that I still have all of my records. When I was processing out in San Diego I went and copied all of them before I turned them in. I kept the originals. |

OK I have my dd 214 right here. It mentions my three+ years of foreign service and one+ year of sea duty but noting about combat zone time. I have a 3" stack of unorganized paperwork to shuffle through. Why does the irs need this. (sigh) Last edited by _BEN_; 01-22-2008 at 02:17 PM. |

just a bit of advice to you and all other vets... take your DD214 to you county courthouse and have it officially recorded there. Just in case you lose the original, it will be on record somewhere. USAF enlisted 88-92 |

Might be a long shot, but do you have a copy of the orders deploying you? I kept copies of mine going to and from Iraq.

FYI, DAV and VFW can be very helpful on your behalf if you need tax filing assistance etc....you'll want to talk with the Service Officer IIRC....usually has a small office or table just inside your local Veterans' Hospital. If you're eligible to join, then join the DAV and/or VFW...very worthy organizations that help our military personnel past and present. Last edited by Natedog; 01-23-2008 at 08:51 PM. | |||
