| Spud Run
Just like the title states. Similar to a mud run, but thru mashed potatoes instead. It will happen again at the RC X-Games this year (http://rcxgames.com/). I used to do the spud run, as a LHS has done it since 1990 or so. Here are some pics of an old spud run vehicle I made. It was an OFNA 1/8th scale buggy, big center spur (54T I think), 12T clutch and 1.1 springs, all 3 diffs locked with shoe goo. Thanks, Casey |

Would 2wd work better? The front seems like it tends to wanna pull down into the slop when the paddles grab. Put your whole suspension and front end under and acts like a plow. 2wd the trucks front will stay on top with the thickness of instant potatoes

Well, this has been done for many years and it varies from year to year. I want to say they used to be thicker and deeper, but maybe I just remember wrong. Last year at the RC X-Games a crawler did make it thru, but was sloooooooooow. Then some 1/5th scales went thru it. My buggy contraption was from about 4-5 years ago. It did okay, I think it got top 3. I needed a better motor, but all I had was an old RG. Oh well, it was fun. I remember watching in the early 90's and people had clods with Astro Flight Turbo 05's and 16 cells. They would make homemade tires from everything from plexiglass to old tires and I think they had to put a stop to it when someone talked of using sawblades!!!! The pit is about 12 or 16 feet long. Each end is slanted, so getting out can be tough. 2wd just doesn't cut it. I have seen people try with skis on front and paddles in back, they just sit and spin. Thanks, Casey |
