Some of you may have scene this thread...Boat guys, need your help..Cavitation?? After I posted it my stepdad came home and I showed him the boat and what is was doing...being the RC OG that he is, he said what everyone else said which was "yea its gonna cavitate untill it gets going, this thing is wayyyy to fast for the pool, you need to try it at the lake". So I packed up my gear, after making sure the boat was working properly and headed to the lake. I got there, unloaded my gear and dropped the boat in the water. I looked around for a sec as it floated about and then punched the throttle it spun up for a sec then took off shooting an awesome rooster tail of water. I was siked but I decided to take an easy until I got the feel of it so I wasnt going out really far with it, I made about 5 passes and things were going well. I launched it out about 25 feet straight out and as I turned around it just died ...nothing.... no throttle...no steering...total sitting duck.. after I stood there for a minute thinking to myself "WOW...this blows..." I decided I was going to have to go get it...well next thing ya know like 5 cars pull and people pile out to feed the ducks so I called my stepdad, told him the bring my suite...a towel and a pool raft... By the time he got there, the boat drifted almost all the way the left and about 3/4 of the way across the lake... so I changed and walked into the murky nasty duck poo infested lake and started swimming Jeff was kind enough to take some photos...here they are swimming out to get the boat... coming back with the boat picking up dudes things that they fish with on the way back... PRICELESS back to shore Yea that was fun.... I must say I was glad I had a pool raft I was freakin tired by the time I made it back I learned a lesson today...well actually 2... first one is go with your gut feeling...earlier today when I was putting the receiver in I looked at the Tekin ESC and it just looked kind of shady... but it worked so I rolled with it...next time I have a feeling about a boat ESC Ill just replace it 1st 2nd lesson learned...if your going to play with RC boat...invest in a small raft..itll save you a swim Heres a cool pic of the villain and high lift...I remembered my mirrors this time I stayed for a while and used the villain...I can always count on that boat Looks like the ESC in the new boat shiat the bed Time to talk with Randy at BBY for something new and reliable. |

Mike, Next time you go hit the water there's a few things you can do without a raft. Take a fishing pole with a tennis ball..just put hooks through the tennis ball. Cast the ball out and reel it in so that the fishing line will go over the running gear. If you forget the fishing pole just pay attention to wind direction. If the wind is blowing out (as in your case) go to the other side of the lake. Use another electric (like the Villian) to push the dead boat back to shore. And...if you're ever in Florida... Don't do like me and swim out into a lake to retrieve the boat only to get back to shore and see this sign... |

I did actually try to retrieve with the villain but it was so damn far out that neither Jeff or myself could see where we were pushing on the other boat I didnt want to accidently flip it and have the thing sink... I was having enough problems funny thing is, I was at a party later on and Jeff was kidding around about my swim and someone asked what we were talking about and when we told them I got this kind of face from them -> I said "It wasn't that bad, water was at least warm" They then replied with " you see this table right here?" (big coffee table) "yea I see it..." "well there is snapping turtles the size of that table in that lake" better watch out for the turtle next time Last edited by 1BadJeepBruiser; 08-11-2007 at 11:53 PM. | |
