Yeah, looks washed to me too. I don't think I have ever seen one of these 4.0's without a bit of an oil coating on top of the valve cover

Ahh yes, memories of the closed cooling system... The best upgrade I have done to date to my XJ is the swap over to the open system components and at the same time, the addition of a 3 row radiator. I can barely get the temps up to 185 degrees idling on the trail in the summer. And I rarely have to hit the switch for the elec fan.
