School me on Mitsubishi Eclipse I am thinking of buying one here in a few months and I am curious what I should look for in a used one? What years, models, and such. I am looking at spending around $10,000 for it. |
. if its for your daughter get an automatic "thumbsup" |

LMAO! Do not go all Fast and Furious on it :flipoff: |
Hmm, I have owned 3 in my day, they were all 1st generation. I loved the awd turbo ones I had, I now own a 2nd generation. if you are spending 10k, you will probably get a 3rd or 4th gen. They have improved over the years, but I wish they would make another all wheel drive turbo version again. |
ask Ilovercrockcrawlin, he has a pretty nice one |

I was thinking about getting the first car I owned (88 Pontiac Fiero GT W/V6) but my wife wanted me to get something with a little more room. I wanted a V6 and it has to be a convertable. (I miss my TJ) Do they make a turbo upgrade for it? Quote:

my mom had a 1997 eclipse and that thing was awesome. just get some different rims and your good to go |
It will be a 3rd Gen. I think that is what I am leaning towards |

I know a guy who has had a few of them. I've not heard him complain about any of them. Like previously said, for 10k you may find a reasonably new one. |
Having a turbo AWD would be nice though...... |
Im not sure what year my buddys was but he blew out the t-case on his awd the t-case was a joke it looked like a lawn mower part it was so tiny and weak lookin .Went to the wreckin yard and they laughed at him, they claimed everyone wants a used case for them there all gone that should tell a guy somthing. He ended up parting it out, washed his handes of it. |
Crappy AWD case.. That isn't a good sign.. |
I'm assuming you won't be beating the car to death? My buddy has beat his pretty bad and has never broken anything to the point of major repair. Its all in how you care for any car. I've had everyone tell me how crappy my rear axle was on my stock XJ and that mild off road use would break it. I just took the hard parts easy and have never had any major failures of anything. I'm going broad and assuming it will be the same for your Eclipse |
Yep, about the same. I'm not out to make a 1/4 Mile dragster out of it. When I had an XJ I got sick of people telling me I was going to blow up the 8.25 and people said the same thing for the D30 Front on my TJ. I never had an issue with each and I wheeled the snot out of them, but was easy on the right parts. |

They also made a 2nd gen talon (most tsi's were awd) Id stay with either the gsx or the tsi. The 4G63 is a great motor. |
I have a 2000 convertable, and had a 90, great cars, take a beating. Easy to work on, the only thing you need to keep up on is the timing belt really. |
1st gen all the way.......it you want power that is the only way.......later models had to many problems with crank walk |
