So, tell me why he, I, you, or anyone else should have to worry about feeding the "starving children of the world"? I'm no cold hearted scrooge, I have nothing against chairity, but here in America, most people live on some kind of budget, if your budget/income allows you to comfortably feed, cloth, and shelter 2 children, then most of us have 2 children. Where are those "starving children's" parents? Simply put, "If you can't feed em, don't breed em"
Why shouldn't this guy be able to spend the money he earned how ever he wants?

I bet the general contractor, subs, interior decorator, building supply store, etc will be feeding their kids. "thumbsup"

We all are wasteful in our own ways. It's just easier to point it out when it's at this magnitude.

If you have it, you should be able to do whatever you want with it.

Yeah, I hate to see the old historic house go down but I'm just jealous it's not a decision that I have make...

Being born and raised in Richmond, VA............and a HUGE historical conservationist, I can tell you this, the materials in this home will not end up in a trash pile somewhere. The concept of the materials being a "waist" is a joke.

Richmond, just as I am sure it is in Boston, is filled with demo companiies that
specialize in respectfully removing every single bit of material of value from such a home, and then recycling it (selling it) to individuals that will use such materials in their own homes or renovations.

My parents put an addition on their 1958 home back in 2001, and after realizing that the original 1958 brick rancher was built from recycled brick, they found a salvage house that had pallets of a perfect match brick in which to create the exterior of their addition (bricks recycled from the demo of a downtown building). With this addition, and the renovation of their original house, they purchased many items such as solid doors, hardware, plumbing fixtures, glass, etc etc etc from the same salvager.

I can guarantee that every single item in that Boston home that is of any value, WILL be salvaged and sold off to be used by others in their homes. PLEASE don't think that the demolition of a great house will lead to loads of historical stuff ending up in a landfill!! There is WAY too much of a demand for historical items, and way too much money to be made, to let such a thing happen.

The demo of one house may just lead to many MANY great historical additions to other homes!

PLUS.....

i would be willing to say that any money made on the recycling of the old house will be used to help defray the costs of the $16 million purchase.

it's seems to be similar to buying a hi-lift kit for just the axles, and parting out the rest of the kit, to help eat some of the initial costs...

but still, buying a mansion to tear it down and build a new one, that must be one AWESOME piece of land it is sitting on...
