Can you get your money back?

slowrockr 09-30-2007 09:59 PM

Don't listen to him. Those are the ultimate sleeper, you'll have alot of fun with that. Few little tweaks and she'll run good. Check out www.thedodgegarage.com Lots of good info on there for ya to read up on "thumbsup"

2JSC 09-30-2007 10:04 PM

Sleeper? Only if you can keep the head gasket from blowing... or the turbo from falling apart. The one my friend had was a horrible pile of ****. Blew 2 head gaskets, even after resurfacing. Then 2 months later the turbo just imploded on itself. If you wan a late 80's Turbo import, look for a Mitsubishi Starion or Toyota Supra. Chrysler never had good luck with turbo motors, even if they didn't make them.

scalerfreak 09-30-2007 10:09 PM

umm, well my uncle bought it off the lot brand spankin new, only put 67,000 miles on it, completly rebuilt the tranny, and parked it, about 7 years ago, i bought it from him today and went out to check it out some more, and she fired right up, and i actually drove it home, now i have to get tagged and inspected, and of coarse get new tires just to be safe, but yea, i got her up to 93 on the highway and figured id better slow it down a bit, central texas cops are a-holes, but i can see some speeding ticket in my future, lol, and it was awsome hearing the turbo :)

slowrockr 09-30-2007 10:11 PM

Crazy, all the ones I've had never had a single problem. I put about 30k on my old T top car bone stock running 23 psi and never had any problems. Cept the clutch:lol: Can't find a Starion/Conquest or Supra for $500 ;-)
You'll have alot of fun with the turbo dodge, surf that site and you'll see the potential they have. If the link is still there check out Gus's turbo mini van "thumbsup"

4stAir 09-30-2007 10:15 PM

we built a few of those, meaning turbo dodges, we never had a problem with them.
if you do it right you can be in the low 12's and DD'able. "thumbsup"

great find.

Maybe not where your at, but they are a dime a dozen out here. Me and my friend bough an 87 Supra Turbo(Auto) for $450... spent $400 in parts for a tune up and other parts that needed replacing... upped the boost a bit and was making a little bit more than 300Hp on stock everything. We turned around and sold it for $1500 "thumbsup"

scalerfreak 09-30-2007 10:26 PM

well i figured it was a steal for 500$ and a 16 year old, i mean i have a 9mpg Z28 and i wanted something to kinda save on gas, and im guessing ill be getting something around 15-20 mpg, so its not bad for 500$ plus i drove it home, and damn near hit 100 on the highway, but figured id slow down, so IMO its a good deal

4stAir 09-30-2007 10:44 PM

well 2j i hate to say this but that car was a hunk i am sure... i am a starion guy, i have 3 right now, and i know what a decent supra and starion cost and 400 is either a stolen car or a beat a!! piece of crap.

that daytona you got there is a sweet score for that price in that shape and that kinda mileage."thumbsup"

badhoopty 09-30-2007 10:53 PM

i would give it a really good wash and tune up, and then i would just keep it simple and keep it stock.

my very first car was an 81 dodge charger 2.2, silver with the black rally stripes. a friend of mine had a daytona like that one you got 10 or so years ago, pretty darn nice driving car from what i remember.

Maybe from where your at - out here don don't get any of that "rust" stuff. And no it wasn't stolen ;-) It did have some "character" but was a solid car.

scalerfreak 09-30-2007 10:58 PM

yea, i have the 2.2 turbo I and it makes a good 142hp stock, wich isnt bad, but i plan on swaping to a 2.2 turbo IV from a shelby version of the daytona, and taking this 4 speed auto out and putting in a 5-speed A-555 tranny, but who knows, first of all im blacking the car out with a black paintjob, darker tint, and some black Akita AK-6 rims

chaman 09-30-2007 10:59 PM

Well you got a $500 car....:lol::lol:"thumbsup"

scalerfreak 10-01-2007 10:36 AM

and..whats wrong with that

JeremyH 10-01-2007 10:36 AM

That looks like a good first car!

I had an '81 Chebby truck as my first and I learned a LOT working on that thing.

scalerfreak 10-01-2007 10:43 AM

yea, i plan to do alot to it, only time and money will tell how fast i get all the work done on it

If I'm not mistaken, those Dodges came with Mitsubishi motors.

Cars like this one (is'nt this a Dodge-marked Starion?) and the Stealth, and the Ford Probe, were way ahead of their time IMO.

Nowadays cars like those (small sporty 4 bangers) are reffered to as "tuner" cars, and you see 50 of them a day.

For sitting for 7 years, she does'nt look too bad...

scalerfreak 10-01-2007 02:37 PM

no, this is a dodge daytona, with the 2.2 Turbo I in it, and it doesnt look bad at all for sitting for seven years in the same spot, and she fired right up

TwistedXT 10-01-2007 03:07 PM

welcome to the Mopar addiction!!! I currently own 3 dodge daytonas (and lookin at another this weekend)
I have a 1988 Turbo Z (turbo 2) that im rebuilding for show/race purposes
I have a 1988 CS Turbo 1 that i drive to work everyday
I have a 1993 ES non turbo that i dropped a new motor in
Im lookin at a 1991 Daytona ES but am really looking for a 1985-86 GLH or GLHS Omni or Charger/Daytona

things to know....

you want to look up sites like the dodge garage and turbo dodge and turbo mopar. FWDPerformance is your friend. Mopar Performace sells really good headgaskets for that engine.. get some. If you start tweekin the turbo, your going to eventually blow em. Stock, my ** z was pushin 15lbs of boost using a Granger valve (google it)... out of the hole it was slow till about 2600 RPMs and all hell would break loose!!!!

$600 bucks is a heck of a find... looks like a Pacifica edition which should be a turbo 1 2.2 liter motor. the tranny should either be a A555 (which rocks) or a A525 which is good but dont get crazy on the launchs or you will be towin it home.

The junk yard is going to be your friend... do some lookin around, Dodge caravans parts bolt right onto that thing... as an upgrade. ive heard of guys using the dodge mini vans calipers and rotors to upgrade the 4 wheel discs to a larger size and then they will also install the minivans brake booster for added braking power.

If you have any questions, let her rip! ive got more books and been workin on these things for like 15 years now... had my first turbo dodge in 1994... been stuck on em since... good cheap fun!"thumbsup"
