Thanks taking out 12 inches was perfect, put the rear shackles right where I wanted them. I do have some scale yellow masking tape JIA But don't have scale blue yet.... I should try to keep my 1:1 pictures slightly out of focus with small apatures, to make them look smaller :-P |

That would defeat the purpose of it being a removable drop bumper I built it so it would look like it was ment to be there when bolted on though, I didn't want some hack looking drop bumper. |

Bent up some side hoops last night... The welds by the wheel well look like crap, because I had to fill a bit of a gap... I shouldn't have cut the ends as short as I did on the main hoop. |

Hook up with a local wheeling club, get involved and wheel with them. You will find people with tubing benders, and all the tools needed to fab up parts. I know a handful of people with tubing benders now. And I know someone with a cnc plasma cutter, I pay him to cut all of my brackets.

Well as soon as I got home last night, I backed the truck into the garage for a full night of body work. Started out by patching the one small rust hole in the bed, cutting out a section of the removed 12 inches and welding it in. Then I blended in the lower drivers side corner on the outside. After everything was smooth, I ruffed up the metal for the body filler. And I spent most of the night laying body filler and sanding it down... I wasn't finished with the body filler until midnight. There were still a few small voids, but I didn't want to spend another hour on the body filler. So I cleaned the body up and sprayed two coats of primer, followed by two spray bomb coats of paint. I think I got to bed around 2am.... This morning I went back out to the garage, and masked the body off for the black paint. Sprayed one coat of black, then bolted the bumpers and tail lights back on while it dried. Pulled off the tape and headed off to work. I stopped at a park to take a few pics on my way in to work. |

Good work man, looks very nice. Are you gonna spray the tube bumper or just leave it alone? Would look great black. There are not really any wheeling clubs around these parts that I have found anyways. More Motorcycle folks here!!!

Thanks guys Here is my current list of things to do yet... Mount the 60" hilift jack in the bed, it just fits now. Grind the welds inside the bed smooth, most of it is done. Pull the bumper off, sand it down and paint it black, like the rest of the armor. Herculine the bed. And I still need to do some body work, there are a lot of sanding marks that need to be worked out yet, I put a quick coat of paint on it to keep water out of the body filler. And I was tired of looking at the bare metal rusting every day. |

I am going to have to change how I mount it on this bed, as its a tight fit now. But here are some pics of how I had mounted it in my old bed, I will weld the mounts on rather then bolt them this time. |

Nope, it was a very solid mount. Hilift actually sells mounts like that, but I couldn't see spending $25 for a bracket that shouldn't cost more then $1 to make....

Took a few pics of the truck on the way home today. Hit some trails earlier today. One of the last trails we did, was a little tight for my truck.... I can't turn as sharp as a jeep with my longer wheel base. So I ended up taking some damamge on the drivers side of the bed. I ran my front bumper against a tree, and still couldn't keep off this one. The dents shouldn't be to bad to pop out, and the paint can be touched up. I will probably do the body work soon, before the snow flys. |
