| **My new toy**
My new toy is a racing lawnmower. Started out as a 10hp riding tractor, tore everything off but the basics. Now it has a 18hp v twin motor (no gov) We changed the front pully from a 3" to a 6" and the rear pully from a 4" to a 3". It does ~25 mph (thats what the gps said) Just another thing to get myself hurt on. Going to build new exhaust and wheelie bar tomarrow. (My dad rolled it over today trying to do wheelies) shes a beast ill get pics tomarrow. Last edited by Mikekx65; 10-28-2007 at 07:24 PM. |

i'v started building my new racing mower. I'm changing her from a standard type tranny, to a chain driven set up. Im running a 1:2.5 ratio to the tranny, and then a 2:1 on the chain side of the tranny to the wheels. With the 5 speed I'm going to be running, speeds are expected to be in the low to middle 40's. Only thing that sucks is finding replacement chain drive tranny's, I seem to always blow 5th gear in them(did it twice on my first mower). You still running the transaxle?

I've actually got a hydrostatic trans. The further you push the lever foward the faster it goes, and the same for reverse. So the transaxle should outlast the motor. The only thing im worried about is the no gov part. How much can a motor handle before it tears itself apart with no gov?

As for the motor, you probably don't want to push it too hard. Just listen to it, if she sounds like she's reving to high, let off a little. hers my old mower Last edited by '83 chevy; 10-28-2007 at 07:58 PM. | |

the cam tends to snap before the motor spins fast enough to come apart.

Well the tractor is like brand new. the first owner just ran it till she blew. Tore the old motor apart and it looked like a bomb went off in it. the axles and everything else if fine though only has 50hrs on it. I might try the go cart axles thing when this one goes,we still have a limited slip axle we never used for our gocart project.
