video card question
 

What,if any,is the difference between PCI and PCI Express? I need to get a new video card for my son's computer so he can run a new game he just got. The comp is a Dell Dimension 3000 and I am pretty sure it takes a PCI card. I found a inexpensive card,a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 but its PCI express.Just need to make sure it will fit before ordering.I know there are a lot of other cards out there (more expensive) but I need the cheapest one I can find.He only plays Rollercoaster Tycoon type games so I don't need a really good card.

Its Thrillville Off the rails,he's only 12.They recommend several cards one being the GeForce FX series.Just need to make sure it will work since it is a PCI express card.

it will work indeed, just wont look any better than normal...

still might be glitchy..

try it and see, just keep it way clean in case you want to return it..

neglect the express logo.. its a marketing thing.. unless your a hardcore gamer..

PCI and PCI Express are 2 different things!

See how the PCI Express slots are longer than a regular PCI slot.

Isa was the old standard up till the early 90's, then pci, then AGP than pci express in speed term each substantially faster then the next"thumbsup"

i stand by my statement, unless your a hardcore gamer, it means nothing to you personally..

seeing as graphics are not your main concern

And if I may suggest, look at Newegg.com or if you plan on picking it up locally at your CompUSA that is fine.

Still, you wont get a PCI-E card to fit in a PCI slot.

Thanks for the link.Thats pretty much my computer.It has an intergrated video card.Just opened up the computer and that would explain why I have 3 slots and only one being used by the nic card.

So it looks like the PCI express card won't fit.Well I guess I'll keep looking.WOuld like to get one locally just in case I get the wrong one.

I have a Dell Dimension 3100 and it shouldn't be much of a difference......I have (2) PCI slots.......wish I had PCI-E though.

PCI is way outdated and I quess thats what we get for ordering from Dell, the newest out is PCI-E..........

I upgraded mine to a Radeon 9250......not much of an improvement but it is quite hard finding a good card for a PCI slot.

I can't play BF2, or anything like that........reason I am sticking to "Americas Army" version 2.8.2

Yup - I've done tons of purchases from newegg and have never had a problem sending anything back.

THAAANNNKS!!! Cheaper than Comp USA which is out of the card I want.
Does it matter thats ist a low profile card,I'm guessing it doesn't.
