I stumbled acros this site that has a lot of interesting do it yourself projects. Many of them are kindof crude but you can add your own modifications to make anything better. Ive only looked for a few minutes but I've seen everything from glowing jello to a small home made mill.

Been a fan of theirs for quite a while.... check out the how to's on costumes (now that they are passed due for halloween)
